Reflections – Organic beauty with a difference (Event Invitation)

I was very excited to be at the launch of Reflections Organics Make-up last week held at Picnic (Wisma Atria). The event space was beautifully decorated with the Chinese New Year mood and it has a Eco garden feel. I don’t even feel like I am indoors.

About Reflection Organic Make-up:
They use 100% vegan and cruelty-free formulations, sans synthetics and parabens. With a diverse array of professional shades to choose from, Reflections hopes to challenge the stereotypes surrounding organic makeup by providing high-performing, pigmented quality that remains nourishing to skin. Believing that beauty begins within, Reflections wants to empower women by creating makeup that actually benefits and improves their skin.

You may notice that the logo for Reflections looked like a butterfly. This symbolises the beauty of a women being transformed.

There were plenty of their products on display and I managed to lay my hands on some to try out the the texture and smell the product.

There is a piece of good news to share with all of you as you have been my fellow supporters for quite awhile now.

From now till 31 Mar 2017, quote “ROPearly17” to be entitled to 10% off all products on

The pressed eye shadow comes in various shades and they are highly pigmented, contrary to what others believe about organic make-up that they are light and non pigmented.

These are their range of lip butter which smells like cupcakes. They are vegan and gluten free, made with Jojoba, avocado and coconut oils. They almost seem edible.

Pressed Mineral Blush in Peach Tulip, Cherry Blossom and Water Lily.

Pressed Mineral Foundation of various shades.

Organic Liquid Foundation.

Lip Glaze that smelled amazing too. There were plenty of shades to choose froom, ranging from the transparent, glittery, shades of pink, nude and reds.

There were plenty of food and drinks prepared for us. There were cakes, soup, sandwiches that we looked as if we were there for a food-tasting instead. They looked great even before we ate them.

Nerissa, founder of Reflections Organics shared with us the story behind Reflections as well as the myths of Organic make-up and the efforts of her charity work in contributing back to the society.

Let me share with you the 4 main reasons for choosing Organic make-up:

  1. Organic make-up not only beautifies you, it heals and improves your skin as you apply them, as the ingredients which they are made from nourishes your skin.
  2. The mineral make-up gives you sun protection as they contain titanium oxide, zinc oxide and iron oxide. These helps in lowering the risk from you getting skin cancer.
  3. Using Organic make-up protects our future generations as they do not contain harsh chemicals.
  4. Nourish the environment as ingredients are obtained from organic farms which are better for the plants, living creatures and human beings. It was followed by a beauty demonstration using Reflection Organic’s cosmetic with a day and night look done on Emilie Tan the vegan ultra-marathoner who is currently pregnant to show that organic make-up is safe for use on pregnant woman too.

Thanks to June’s creative idea, we had the opportunity to make our own dried flower mandala or dream catcher as some call this. It was very fun to put together these dried flowers and they look so artistic. We were also given a goodie bag before we left.

Thank you Boxgreen for the healthy fruit and nut snacks, Puvay for the chia lite collagen drink and Reflections Organics for the lovely goodie bag of make-up with the lovely peach box.

Let me share with you my thoughts after trying out the organic make-up which I had received from Reflections. I have been playing with them for awhile now and I am looking forward to sharing with you a little more about them on a separate post.

3 WOW reasons to visit Lynn Aesthetic for your monthly pamper me time

Some of my favourite things to do after a hard day of work is to enjoy  me time doing beauty treatments, such as spa, massage, facial, a good hair treatment, or a simple beauty treatment like manicure and pedicure. These things may not be a great deal to you, but for me these are necessary intrinsic rewards for me to keep my journey ahead going strong.

This year, I promise myself a monthly facial or pamper me treatment, so just in time for the Chinese New Year season, I was offered such an opportunity. I was invited to try out the Facial at Lynn Aesthetic.

Lynn Aesthetic is located in the heartlands of Kovan. A place where I always frequent to have my hawker fares. It is about 5 minutes walk from the Kovan MRT Station.

About Lynn Aesthetics:

Lynn Aesthetics provides beauty aesthetic services such as facials, body massages, slimming procedures, IPLs and Waxing services. They have been in the business for about 31 years and have a total of 9 “themed” rooms within the Aesthetic salon. 4 downstairs, 5 upstairs.

Read on to find out my 3 wow reasons why I think you too, should visit Lynn Aesthetic for your monthly pamper me time.

(1) Lynn Aesthetics gives you heart-warming touches, down to every small detail.

I was offered a cup of ginger tea while waiting for my beauty therapist, Kate to attend to me. Look at the frangipani flower which they placed beside the tea along with some sweets. I thought it was normal to serve tea, but to have a frangipani as a decoration beside it, this wowed me.  It may be a very small thing, but for someone to add the additional touches, it makes me feel welcomed.

As it is the Chinese New Year period, you can see the salon being decorated beautifully, ready to welcome their guest.

I was asked to fill up a facial consultation card so that they can keep my records and at the same time, take note of my facial concerns.

VIP – Butterfly Room

I love how they decorated little hidden areas to make the whole place look so homely and cozy.

(2) Facial rooms are proper rooms and beautifully decorated in different themes.
I was then ushered upstairs to their room to have my facial done. According to Kate, every room is decorated differently based on their “theme” and each therapist takes care of their own room. I was however, offered the VIP (Butterfly room) which was used by their boss. I feel so honored to be using her beautiful room.

Fairytale/ Field of flowers themed room

This is Kate’s room. The set up is for a customer who will be doing a slimming treatment.

Seaside themed room

(3) Attentive and professional therapist serves you.
Even though Kate was very chatty with me and I was distracting her most of the time with my conversation, she was very professional and did not forget to explain to me each of the steps that was being done on my face. I do not get sudden surprises from her.

Next, let us move on to the treatment that she had done for me. Kate had planned for a Detox Facial for the Young and Trendy Facial ($180), customized for me and taking note of my sensitive areas.

These are the steps of the facial in summary:

1) Cleanse – For removal of make-up on me and cleaning off the dirt on my face.

2) Tone – To prepare my skin for the next stops and acting as a double cleanse.

3) Gommage peel – To remove dead skin and bring back the skin to a clean slate.

4) Skin Scrubbing (machine) –  suction – To suck out the dirt that were underneath my pores, pimple extraction was also done before the skin scrubbing machine. The pimple extraction was more painful at the nose areas for me as they were quite dry. I have this same problem every time.

5) Eyebrow Trimming – Kate trimmed my eyebrows and tidied the loose hairs around it.

This photograph was taken mid-way during facial. You can see some redness around my cheeks, chin and nose area after the pimple extraction process but at the same time my face was glowing.

6) Oxygenating Serum/ Detox Gel/ Collagen Whitening Serum/ Hydrating Gel/ Slimlook Gel (customize by skin) – For this, I was given the whitening serum for my pigmentation.

7) Lip, Eye care – Products for the lip and eyes were applied on my face during my facial massage.

8) Oxygenating Night Cream, face, shoulder head massage – I did my facial during the day, so there were no night cream being applied. Essential oil was used instead. I was given a very relaxing face and shoulder massage.

9) Co2 Cream Mask – I was given a mask that was suitable for my sensitive skin.

10) Hand Massage – Kate massaged my hands and loosen my tight muscles. It felt good although i wish she could exert slightly more force.

11) Foot Massage – I was quite surprised that the facial here consist of a foot massage as well. The bed also had gentle vibrations during my masking time so it felt a little more relaxing than the normal beds.

12) Toning – cream – sunblock – Lastly, sunblock was applied on my skin so that I can proceed to my next destination.

Kate was quite worried for me after my facial as I told her I had to attend another event that night. There was redness after the facial, so I had to rely on concealers to cover them up and I was a little uncomfortable.

After my facial, I was offered some grapes along with a cup of fruit tea.

Overall, I would recommend this place for anyone who would like to experience a facial in the Kovan neighborhood area. There are on-going promotions, so do check with them before you head down.

Wonder how is my face doing now? Take a look at the photo comparison and you will see my face glowing! Most of the redness had gone by now. 2 days after the facial, my face was healing very well and I did not need to do much concealing by then.

:Left- Facial after day 0, :Right – Facial after day 2

Ambience Rating: ★★★★☆ Cozy and well decorated, room was very cozy, spacious and huge with cozy lighting.

Service: ★★★★☆ Very cozy, homely , professional therapist

Facial Effectiveness: ★★★☆☆ Pimple extraction was a little painful, massage can exert more strength and bed vibration a little redundant as not much strength.

Price: ★★★★☆ Average for similar type of facials

Location: ★★★★☆ Very near to MRT station

3 Skin Saver products to own from Beauty Keeper to keep your skin at tip top condition this CNY

Sometime last year, there was a hype in town about a Taiwanese Beauty Box at the Samplestore event. I was being held up with work, and I had to give the event a miss. My friends were sharing about how generous the folks at Beauty Keeper were with the goodie bags and it had us talking for days. Thankfully the folks at Samplestore offered me this opportunity to try out some of the products. This Taiwan brand is none other than,  Beauty Keeper.

About Beauty Keeper:
“Beauty Keeper was founded to bring innovative, novel and award winning Taiwanese beauty products closer to you. Discover your unique beauty attitude and fall in love with homegrown Taiwanese brands brought to you exclusively by Beauty Keeper.”

The 3 Skin Saver products which I am going to introduce to you are:

  1. Mdmmd Upra Wake Up Skin and Freeze-Age Essence
  2. Mdmmd Water Drop Cream
  3. MD/AA Jiao Herbal Acne Control SOS Stick

Upra Age-Delay Revive Toner 120ml

The Mdmmd Upra Age-Delay Revive Toner is enriched in high concentration of compound natural ferment extract. It promises to prevent and slow down skin aging, improve drying appearance and helps your skin cell metabolism, whitens your skin and providing it with nutrients and repairing it.

I love the non-sticky watery texture and fragrance free, of this product when I applied it on my face although it feels dense and slightly sticky to the touch, when I first pour it on my hand. The Upra Age-Delay Revive Toner is unlike the usual market toners that are high in alcohol content, cause skin dryness and very watery in texture. The Upra Age-Delay Revive Toner is free of alcohol, artificial ingredients and colouring, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin like mine. It has a serum like texture.

Because of its dense texture, I would highly recommend you to apply this directly on to your face, followed by a gentle massage and patting it in, than using a cotton wool as the wool will absorb the toner rather quickly, leaving only a little for your skin. I have personally tested, so I can vouch for this.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Mdmmd Water Drop Cream

The Mdmmd Water Drop Cream is Mdmmd’s exclusive star product. This 3 in one product is a toner, serum and lotion. The product promises to lock in your skin’s moisture levels. It preps your skin before you apply your make-up, and keeps your makeup stay put all day long.

For people with dry skin condition whom are advised to avoid the toner, this is one product which I highly recommend. It has a nice gentle fragrance and creamy water texture that keeps my face hydrated and moisturized all day long. As they say, a little goes a long way. One small dab of cream is enough for my face and 1/2 more pump for decolletage area. I have even tried to apply make-up after using this as a moisturizing base. It is so easy to put on my make-up after this and they lasted me all day without the need for any touch up.

Since it is a 3 in one product, you can omit your toner and serum and apply this directly when you face feels too heavy or oily. I tend to use this more during the day and use both the toner and water drop cream together at night.

Rating: ★★★★☆

MD/AA Jiao Herbal Acne Control SOS Stick

The MD/AA Jiao Herbal Acne Control SOS Stick is Antibiotic-free and your Emergency Remedy for Acne. Pump up the Oxygen, with volcanic cool spring which absorbs oxygen and repairs your skin along with Houttuynia Cordata, viola philippica, and acorus gramineus extract to Calm, sooth and cure the discomfort from acne and blackholes.

This acid-free product is kept to only the essential ingredients to put your skin to rest and to get the nourished to bring your skin back to its best.

I like how it is called an SOS stick and can be easily chunked into the bag for emergencies. This is great for traveling as we tend to experience sudden breakout during a trip and are so weary of how awful we will look in photos.

The SOS stick has a twist mechanism which works like a double eye lid glue pen. They looked so identical that I sometimes see myself reaching for the wrong product. (opps!)

Having said that, I don’t know it is a fortunate thing or unfortunate thing because ever since I have used the Mdmmd products (shown above), I observe my skin having less break-outs. Even my eczema are tamer now. My make-up artist commented that she is happy that she didn’t need to conceal too much from my skin too. That means I cannot justify fully for the effectiveness of this product.

It does not have any herbal smell despite its name and it did worked on a small zit near my nose after applying it immediately when I spotted it the night before. The next day, the zit was nowhere to be seen.

Did you spot the nosy one trying to photobomb me? Maybe she wants some of these on her too. All products featured in this post can be found in

Overall, I loved all these products that I’ve used on my face after testing them for close to a week. Remember however, to always practice a patch test on one spot of your face area, monitor the effects for a night and slowly adjust the “dosage” on your skin if you need more or less of the product. Discontinue using if you observe any adverse effects and consult a doctor immediately. Product efficacy also varies for different skin types, so what works on me, may not work on you.

5 Basic Eye Make-up products which you should own in 2017

Women these days like to doll up themselves but are so lazy to head out, what an irony right? I have been purchasing my clothes online for the first time in 2016. I am a late boomer, yes I know, but I have been buying everything else online. I simply couldn’t afford any spare time to go shopping anymore and perhaps I also wish to avoid the crowd. Besides, shopping online have plenty of other benefits too.

Thankfully,  I’ve found Sephora Online for my make-up needs. Since my eye products are those that tends to have a shorter shelf life, I had to replace them rather frequently. I’ve just thrown away a bulk of my old eye make-up which had way past their shelf life or finished their service with me.

Dear readers, may i invite you to join my cult, and shop for your favourite eye products with me. Check out my Sephora Eye Make-up Haul.

Here, may I present to you the;

5 Basic Eye Make-up products which you should own in 2017

In Summary, these are the 5 products which I had selected for year 2017. They wouldn’t last me for the whole of 2017 I am sure, but these are definitely the bunch that can see me through my day to day activities.

If you had realized, my loots are inclined towards the nude shades. The products which I had chosen are more towards beauty enhancing products, rather than loud and attention beauty grabbing products. This ties in with my personality and my idea of creating a more subtle and natural, everyday look.

♥ Benefit Cosmetics – Roller Lash Mini
♥ Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner in Trooper – Satin Black
♥ Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown – Rich Chocolate Brown
♥ Kat Von D – Lock-It Correcting Eyeshadow Primer – Fair
♥ Sephora Collection – Colourful 5 Eye Contour Palette – No. 1 Porcelain

1 ♥ Benefit Cosmetics – Roller Lash Mini

You might have already seen the picture of this Roller Lash Mini which I had featured on my instagram account. Compared to the full sized, this mini size is only 40g. It is great for those who wish to try the product for the first time if they had never used it before.

Sephora carry plenty of products in travel and deluxe sizes. I was quite thankful that I could lay my hands on this. I also loved how girlish the packaging looked, even before trying on the product. Its my first time using Benefit Lash products and I was rather happy with the turn out.

I used to be a big fan of Mascaras but I really dislike the Mascara removal process. I am glad that the Roller Lash Mini turned out to be easy to apply, no mess and no flaking mess, non smudging on the eye lids, except only a little at the bottom lashes, as my bottom lashes are very short. The mascara was also very long-wearing as they had promised it to be. It is also easy to remove using a water-based or oil based make-up remover.

Rating: ★★★★☆

2♥ Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner in Trooper – Satin Black
3♥ Kat Von D – Tattoo Liner in Mad Max Brown – Rich Chocolate Brown
$32 each

You might feel that I am cheating here because these 2, are similar products in different shades. Eyeliner had been my must have make-up, aside to BB Cushions and foundations. Eyeliners helps me to define my small eyes making them look sharper and more obvious.

I prefer brush typed eyeliners to gel, ink, crayons and pencil types because they are easier to apply on my lids and I can have an ease of control. I also prefer the finer tipped liners to the bulky pencil heads. I go for waterproof whenever I can so as to avoid the messy dripping mess after a downpour.

I’ve read so many positive reviews about this Kat Von D Tattoo Liner and I told myself I need to trust them and get both shades. I am a sucker for eyeliners and so I couldn’t decide which shade to get. The black is pigmented and dark, great for defining the eyes and getting the bold look, while the brown shade is a more modern and playful shade suitable for casual days and natural no make up look, days.

Colour swatch

I ‘ve tried both of them prior to writing this review and I loved how the brushes felt on my eye lids. Soft, natural brushes that gives off a really dark pigmented shade when applied on my eye lids. The eyeliner could last all day without touch up and did not smudge at all. Other than that, removal was also rather easy with any water based make-up remover.

I am quite sure I will repurchase this and that they will become my next holy grail product.

Rating: ★★★★★

4♥ Kat Von D – Lock-It Correcting Eye shadow Primer – Fair

The eye shadow primer comes with a tiny sharpener attached to the end of your pencil.

Colour swatch

I am rather new to eye primers. I’ve used a face primer mist and other face primer products before but not an Eye shadow primer, hence it was really interesting to try out this product. The Kat Von D – Correcting Eye shadow Primer features 5 shades to match your different skin shades. It is meant for bringing out the true colours of your eye shadow products, making them long-wearing, similar to what a face primer would do to your face.

The eye shadow primer is like a powdered crayon, so it was really easy to apply just by gliding on my eyelids. I would also apply some of them to conceal my dark eye circles.
I do find my eye products more long lasting and the colour to my bright eye shadows tend to last longer with the primer, compared to when there was none. Application was also easier and smoother.

The eye shadow primer somehow also kept my lids dry as I tend to have an oily eye lid so I was glad the primer helped to hold my eye products in . Despite its effectiveness, the eye shadow primer is quite pricey, so you may want to consider to purchase it when Sephora runs a promotion.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

5♥ Sephora Collection – Colourful 5 Eye Contour Palette – No. 1 Porcelain

Colour swatch

The first 2 shades are very close to my original skin colour, the 3rd and 4th appears slightly glittery and the darkest shade is a subtle brown. I like how the colour gradually increases its darkness and in tone.

I have selected the Porcelain palette which has the lightest tones to match my skin shade, there are 2 other palette (the light and medium) if you are of a darker skin shade. Eye shadows are common, but eye and face contouring is slowly creeping in these days. They have became more important as they help us better define our features.

I applied the colours with some help from the instructions at the back of the palette and it was quite amazing how it made my eye pop, yet giving me the subtle natural look unlike the regular eye shadows.

I have tried the 3rd glittery shade on my hands both with and without the eye primer, and it proves that the eye contour palette works so much better with the Eye Primer.

Rating: ★★★☆☆

Here is my final look with my 5 top picks for 2017 (I used the Kat Von D Black Eyeliner instead of the brown one for this look). I have also incorporated my basic skincare and other face and lip products to create the final look. Its a natural subtle everyday look.

We decided to bring the furkid out for an exploration trip since we had taken the day off to enjoy our long holiday.

That’s me and my fur kid.

This is me after a day out walking in Coney Island, everything is fine except for a little smudgy eyes caused by the mascara on my lower eye lashes.

Shopping at Sephora is so easy and delivery is fast. There’s no need to worry about broken cosmetics as all the products are nicely wrapped. Beat the crowd and grab these favourite picks of mine for yourself this new year.

Kay’s Instant Macaroni – 3 Minutes is all you need

Hi Everyone, as we usher the new year, we need to remind ourselves to eat healthier and live well. I will be sharing with you some instant food which are healthy and yummy, which I had the opportunity to try. Cooking them is not as complicated as you think they are, yet they can be nutritious when the right ingredients are added.

About Kay’s Singapore
In 2008, we started as an import and distribution company that serve healthy and natural food products. After gaining profound knowledge of food industry for 8 years, the experience that we have gathered allowed us to identify specific requirements in the consumers lifestyle and food industry.

Therefore with this foresight, we open our doors in 2015 and committed to cater consumer only the finest, high-quality and affordable food products in Singapore. We believe that anyone can prepare food quickly and easily for themselves and their loved ones by using our food products, which is made in Singapore. In line with this belief in preparing food conveniently, we introduce our first instant macaroni that can help customers to save time and money in their busy and time-tight lifestyle.

Kay’s Instant Macaroni comes in 5 different flavors and they are a brand from Singapore.
Support the local brands!

  1. Tom Yum
  2. Curry
  3. Anchovy
  4. Chicken
  5. Vegetable (not in photo as they ran out of stocks)

They are produced with top grade, 100% durum wheat semolina, hence you will not encounter any bitter after taste.

The macaroni may look tiny here but they are quite huge after cooking and filling to the tummy. If you are a small eater, you can share this one pack with someone else. Throw in more ingredients such as vegetables, seafood and meat to enrich its flavour.

For our Muslim readers, you will be pleased to know that this product is halal certified. Feel free to eat them at ease.

My version however, is certainly not halal because my family loves pork. Feel free to omit the pork and replace them with chicken or fish instead if you are not a fan.

Cooking Kay’s Curry flavored macaroni

3 minutes is all you need to prepare these, compared to the traditional pastas which require a longer time (8-12 mins). Seasoning pack is also included, so no excuses for forgetting your sauce, having a bland meal or having to crack your brains thinking of how to season the soup by yourself. Save yourself long hours for having to brew the soup base too.

Cooking  Macaroni soup is simple. All you have to do is follow my steps.

1) Bring a bowl of water to boil.
2) Empty the macaroni from the sachet and seasoning pack, boil for about 3-5  minutes. I have to boil them slightly longer because I have meat in my soup.
3) Add in the ingredients you want, (add in the meat first, followed by the vegetables as meat takes a longer time to cook).
4) Put the garnish on top and they are now ready to be eaten.

For this bowl of Macaroni, I have used Kay’s Chicken flavoured Macaroni pack and added fresh Caixin, home-made pork balls, tomato slices, fresh spring onion (from my home garden) and fried shallots to garnish. I like my macaroni with plenty of greens and a variety of colours.

The macaroni had expanded so much in slightly over 3 minutes of cooking. The chicken flavoured soup is not too salty and you like chicken broth, you probably will like this soup base as much as I enjoyed mine.

For this bowl of Macaroni, I have used Kay’s Curry flavoured Macaroni pack and added the same exact ingredients i used for my previous version. You can see that the soup base is slightly orange for this version. It is mildly spicy as I had emptied the whole seasoning pack. It is more flavourful compared to the chicken flavored one.

You can also cook the “dry version” by gently boiling them over a minute and stir frying them in a frying pan before adding on your desired ingredients such as eggs, vegetables and meat slices. The Anchovy flavored version would be a good choice to do this. I shall also be trying the Tom Yam version soon too.

Each individual packet consist of 3 small packs (of the same flavor) at $3.20, it is so affordable, and can be found at most ShengSiong Supermarket, NTUC Fairprice, Umart, Prime Supermarket and Ang Mo Supermarket, more information on the specific outlets where you can purchase them, can be found here.

For more details and information, do check out Kay’s Facebook Page.

Thank you Kay’s, for sending me this pack of Kay’s Macaroni in assorted flavors for my review. Review is 100% honest and based on personal experience. 2017 New Year Resolution

Good Bye 2016…

2016 is going to be over soon. The footsteps of Christmas is gone and soon after, Chinese New Year will follow. What you have accomplished this year, would soon become history. We all know that life ahead will only get tougher and not any easier. Being a business owner myself, I do witness the number of appointments declining towards the end of the year and competition becoming stiffer and business gets harder than before.

Some months ago, I tried to return to the workforce. I did find myself struggling, because I have not been employed for a few years by now. I was willing to try, to change my expectation and look at jobs that I had previously said no done before. I was also willing to take on lower positions and accept a pay cut. But, it all didn’t quite work out for me. Some interviews turned out to be a total mockery as employers scrutinize me and told me what I was worth was much lesser than what I actually think I am worth.

In the current workforce, it is no longer you, whom is calling the shots, but employers are choosing you instead. You are judged from head to toe, from the way you dress yourself, to the way you talk, to the qualifications you own, to your family members and your job experience. Every small detail now matters.

Time and again it makes me wonder, why are we constantly asked to find an iron rice bowl, to look for good jobs, to get a good qualification so that in future we can have a good life. Does being employed really ensure your stability in life?  Rather than to be employment creators ourselves?

Why aren’t children taught entrepreneurship from young and encouraged to do well in school so that in future they can help the economy by having their own start-ups, and being able to do what they love rather than forced to be in a trade because of the income it brings?  Teach children to dare the risk and venture out of their comfort zones.

Why do we allow employers to constantly judge us, and determine how much we are worth? Who are they do determine our value? Who are they to determine what we are capable of doing? Just because they are our pay masters? So we should be their slave? So we can be made redundant as and when they feel that we are no longer required? Make your absence felt people, not your presence.

(1) I don’t know what 2017 holds for me and if I can be re-employed again. I am prepared to stay like this forever, and take on short-term stints if need be. At the least, I am still earning a small amount of money from my business, which allows me to pay off my monthly debts. If there’s any reason I’m returning back to work for others, it is such that my income is more stable, and I get to contribute my part and let my family’s life be a little better and easier than now.

That is only work. So, What about life? What about relationships? Your parents will not be with you forever. Same goes to your partner, your family, your friends and even your children. One day, they will all leave you. Spend time to love and care for them. Drop your mobile phones, take beautiful photographs, go traveling. Communicate more with your loved ones. Learn to listen, not with the intend to reply but to understand.

(2) Next year, I hope to spend more time with my friends and family. To travel to new places and to be a better communicator.

Nothing last forever. Start thinking about your health if you haven’t. Start taking supplements, go for health check-ups and exercise regularly. Keep yourself alive by keeping your brains active.

(3) I have started to engage myself with runs, so that I can start keeping myself active. I will be going for the Safari Zoo Run. Have you signed up yet? This is somewhere you can start. Aligning with my 2nd resolution, I will be spending time during and after the run with my friends and family, killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Lastly, I would like to express my huge thanks and appreciation to everyone who supported me and my blog this year. Thank you for giving me the opportunity in each and every way possible. Giving me ample advise and supporting me when I was depressed.

Thank you for tolerating me even during my blog migration, my down times and times of uncertainty . This year I have made several breakthroughs in my blogging history, doing things I’ve never done before, taking photographs with celebrities, gaining new ambassadorships, new sponsorship and forging new relationships, giving myself the courage and confidence which I never thought I had all these while. I am proud to be different and I will stand out of my comfort zone to get what is out there waiting for me. I hope you will continue to support me. Next year I really hope I will be able to do more and make myself more prominent in the blogging industry.

(4) I hope to be available to more brands and PRs, to receive more opportunities next year and engage with my readers more. Don’t feel shy, do leave me a message or email if you wish to collaborate or to feedback on what you had been reading on my blog. I have started talking to people and engaging myself with different projects so do approach me if you have something planned for us.

You can contact me at , drop me a PM on facebook and find me on instagram too.

Till then, i hope I will be a better person next year and to be able to hold up to your expectations.

5 Things you need to know about Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice is here again! Many Chinese, learn that we gather to eat the glutinous rice balls for this festival but few knows the reason why. For my husband, any festival which he gets to eat something, makes him happy so he wouldn’t probe further.

If you wikipedia “Winter Solstice” you will get an article that tells you this is the shortest day and longest night which you will experience in the year, along with some significance that it is time for the animals to mate, time to harvest the crops and the awakening of the nature.

If all that sounds weird and uninteresting to you, then let me share with you the significance of it in a Chinese’s context based on what I had learn growing up from a traditional family, as well as what I had gathered from Baidu. So the next time someone ask you, you can answer them easily. So, here I present to you,

5 things you need to know about Winter Solstice:

  1. During Winter Solstice “冬至”. The Chinese gathers to make glutinous rice balls known as “汤圆” to worship our ancestors and gods before they sit together to enjoy the dessert as a family. This is made by mixing glutinous rice flour with water, molding them into balls and boiling them in a sweet (black sugar + Pandan leaf + Ginger) or savory (Peanut) soup. The traditional types comes with pink and white balls.

  2. The roundness in the glutinous rice balls represents reunion, fullness for a family “团圆”“圆满”. This is often why they come in a round shape rather than fanciful shapes. We are often told to make this balls with both hands, to signify our sincerity to the gods. However, with the modernized times, the glutinous rice balls now comes in various cute animal shapes, a rainbow of colours and even in different sizes. This is one way to entice the new generations to continue the traditional as well as for kids to enjoy this treat. Many also choose to purchase ready made glutinous rice balls instead of making it by themselves due to their busy schedules.

  3. As the Chinese believes in auspiciousness and that good things come in pairs, we often make an even number of glutinous rice balls.

  4. Winter Solstice often signify the start of the next Chinese Lunar year, therefore the family must eat the glutinous balls together as a sign of reunion and that the family will be together for the next year to come.

  5. Since it signifies the beginning of a new Chinese Lunar year, finishing the dessert means that we have all grown a year older after the dessert.

You may wish to refer to the original article in traditional Chinese for more information on this festival, I have broken them down into different parts for easy reading.

Credits:

I am surprised to learn that they now have a corner for hair treatments.

About Instant Calm Facial (60 minutes)

-Your face will be first cleansed and your make-up will be removed. This is typical to any facials.

Can you see the metal tool beside me? At this point one side of my face had already been cleansed (removed of obvious white heads)

The beautician then proceeds with pimple extraction using a metal tool. The obvious white heads on the surface of your face are removed using this tool so that it will be less painful during the extraction. This tool is so cool.

I was told by my beautician Stephie, that this tool comes in really handy for people who are afraid of the painful extraction process. I was quite disgusted when she showed me my whiteheads but at the same time pleased to know that they were all removed. I can’t remember when I had a facial with pimple extraction already. Perhaps more than 2 months ago?

The pimple extraction that followed after this extraction tool was used, was quite painful because there were many stubborn pimples that was deep in my skin. She did warn me before hand but what to do, I prefer my skin to be clean.

Stephie then proceed with eyebrow trimming and shaping. She was very nice to check with me if I preferred my brows thick or thin and that she would balance them out so when it grows, it will appear nicely.

Pardon my very chui face please…  did you notice the glow on my face?

Calming ampoules were applied on my skin and she was very careful not to “touch my eczema areas”. She then followed through by applying a soothing mask sheet on my face, and ended the facial with a shoulder massage while I had the mask on my face.

This facial is suitable for people with sensitive skin like me to calm the redness and improves your skin complexion.

The facial room is really small and is shared with 2 other persons separated by curtains so that they can serve more customers at a time but you will still get he privacy you require so no worries for that.

Overall, I am satisfied with the facial experience except for the pimple extraction which was quite painful as there were some really deep whiteheads and somehow I wished that I can be put in a bigger room. I also wished that the massage was longer…. (wishful thinking I know).

Its only about 1 week+ post facial with minimal make-up on, taken at the end of the day after a movie date. It was about 11pm and I think 3/4 of my make-up was already gone. My skin is looking so much healthier. I am so so so glad, that the 2 major pimple extractions had since subsided and my skin is no longer looking flaky now thanks to this timely instant calm facial. My skin had since calm down and I am glad I can now go out confidently again. Good bye nasty pimples and ugly skin.

Finally, if there’s just one thing which you would like to get for me this Christmas, it has to be the Lipstick Chocolate that comes in 6 assorted colours. We just can’t take our eyes of them. I wouldn’t be sure if I would eat them as they looked too real and are too precious to be bitten off.

Spicy Thai Thai Cafe introduces new Thai Style Dishes

You probably have heard me rave about the food from Spicy Thai Thai Cafe on my previous blog entry. I have been recommending this place to my friends ever since. People staying within the Aljunid area is so lucky because there are so many good food. Looks like I’ve really gotta explore this area more.

This time round back at Spicy Thai Thai Cafe , I am being re-invited back to try their new Thai Style Dishes, this is so timely to cure my Thai food cravings. I haven’t eaten any good Thai food for quite some time already.

Kaeng Som Cha Om

Kaeng Som Cha Om 泰式野菜煎蛋辣汤 $18

Friends who knows me well knows that other than Japanese food, my next favourite  choice will always be Thai food. I am a big fan of tom yam soup. This Kaeng Som Cha Om is a Thai styled tom yam soup. I love the spicy sour flavor accompanied with fried egg with dill in the soup which came as a surprise. It almost felt like eating a pot of hot fish soup with fried eggs in them.

Thai Sambal Sea Bass

Thai Sambal Sea Bass 泰式阿毵鲈鱼 is charged by a Seasonal Price

This deep fried sambal sea bass is the table’s favourite as everyone kept reaching for more. Don’t be misled by the amount of sambal (chill paste) that is on the fish. It is not as spicy as you think it is. I simply love the crispy texture of the fish and believe me, I can finish the fish all alone. Think about barbecue fish, this is similar to it.

Thai Fried Chilli Fish Head

Thai Fried Chilli Fish Head 泰式炒辣椒鱼头 $28

I love fish head but it is difficult to find fried fish head on a dish by itself other than fish head steamboat . This was my favourite dish of the night. Be warned thou cause this fried fish can be too spicy for some people. I love its crispness and spiciness so for me it was the deal. Can I have some more please?

Other than the above new Thai dishes, one can also find Thai-chinese dishes within the cafe.

Cold Tofu with Special Thai Seafood Sauce

Cold Tofu with Special Thai Seafood Sauce 泰式海鲜酱汁冷豆腐 $15

This is ordinary steam tofu made not ordinary because of the special thai seafood sauce. Those who wants something simpler to go with their rice can give this dish a try. Who knows tofu can taste so flavorful when coupled with the right sauce?

Stir-Fry Broccoli with Scallops

Stir-Fry Broccoli with Scallops  干贝炒西兰花 $20

For every kid that dislike vegetable, somehow they would enjoy Broccoli. I am not sure if it is the same as yours. Do however, give this Broccoli with Scallops a try as the scallops are so yummy that I just wanna keep popping them into my mouth.

Stir-Fry Cabbage with Thai Sweet Fish Sauce

Stir-Fry Cabbage with Thai Sweet Fish Sauce 泰式鱼卤炒包菜 $10

The cabbage tasted so sweet by itself. If you are a fan of cabbage you would know that typically the stems of cabbage are so tough. This however is not as tough as the ordinary ones as they originates from Beijing. The simple Thai sweet fish sauce did however bring out the sweetness in the cabbage. You should really try this for yourself.

Jade Noodles

Jade Noodles 泰式翡翠面 $6 (shown above is for 3 pax)

The jade noodles reminds me of the morning breakfast fried noodles that we have. The colour is a little frightening but it is tasty on its own and has a nice chewy texture to it. Those who do not wish to order rice can opt for the jade noodles. Let’s not forget about the charsiew slices that comes it it. They are so good on their own too.

Other than those, who also had Lala (Clams) Behoon , BBQ Pork Belly and Deep Fried Kang Kong with special sauce. You can read my previous blog review on this if you wish to know my thoughts on them.
