S+ Cryoboost Premium Balance Facial Treatment at Fresver Beauty

I had been waiting for awhile to have my facial done. All those stress and work that had been plaguing me recently had cause the damage on my already “falling apart” face. The dark eye circles, pigmentation and even random pimples had been popping out on my face.

I believe that if I left my face unattended for another month, I might need to find somewhere to hide my face.

I was so glad when I finally can have my facial at Fresver Beauty. Bye bye skin troubles, hello to beautiful and flawless skin (in the making).

About Fresver Beauty:

Fresver Beauty are the pioneers in the skincare and beauty industry with 29 years of history, bringing customers the latest technology and best products source from around the world.

They are the exclusive distributor of S+ products from Spain.

Currently they have 4 outlets in Singapore, they are in  Hougang, Tampines, Orchard, Tiong Bahru (Biggest and newest outlet). Guess which outlet I am at?

A skin analysis was done after I filled up the customer particulars form and it confirms that I have sensitive skin , eczema at my cheeks area, my skin was dry and there was lack of oxygen and nutrient supply. All these had been my on-going issues for a few years already, so I wasn’t surprised when I heard about it.

Look at that piece of mess which was resulted because I went to poke my pimple. It was inflamed and the skin around it was badly damaged. My bad! Please do not attempt this because you don’t want an inflamed skin like mine.

I was recommended the Cryoboost Classic Plus Facial which made use of products from the Glaciar range that contains powerful liposomal glaciar from 1800m deep for extreme purity. This sounds totally ATAS and I can’t wait to try it after hearing about it. It made use of dual action hyaluronic acid for intensive hydration and to lock in moisture to sustain results. Yes! Hydration is what my skin needed badly.

I was told that I had bad eye bags too and I should start using some eye products. I never paid attention to my eye bags much as I thought they we caused by my lack of rest.

(Sample of a facial room, not the room I was using)

Shortly after, I was ushered into the facial room where I got myself changed into a sarong. It is finally time to relax and enjoy my facial time. Yes!!!

A welcome Aroma Ritual & Head Massage was done on me to fully relax myself before my beautician begins to double cleanse my skin in preparation of the facial processes. I love the massages during facial and it works wonders if you are having headaches.

My face was double cleansed to ensure all traces of make-up removed and face kept clean.

S+ Gentle pearl exfoliation was done to remove all the dead skin particles and allowing new skin to resurface. Although I had sensitive skin, when the right products are used I still can enjoy a good exfoliation.

My face was steamed for about 5-10 minutes to open up the pores for extraction of my pimples. This step was carefully done and the pain from the extraction was bearable. I quite enjoy this part although many ladies out there tries to skip this. I love the fact that my skin is cleaned out of those pesky black and white heads. Oh, I also have milla seeds.

After the extraction, my beautician also helped me to trim my eyebrows using both the plucking and shaving methods to keep them neat. This is so valuable to me because having a perfectly trimmed set of brows is very crucial in looking presentable.

Speaking of which, I am looking for eyebrow tattoo / embroidery service so do let me know if you have any recommendations.

Sooth & repair serum is being applied onto my skin to calm my irritated and raw skin.

Cryoboost Calming Therapy – This is done using an exclusive carrier plate that emits microsonic waves, this machine gently pushes the customized soothe and repair gel into the deeper layers of my skin. This helps to sooth and hydrate my skin as well as to speed up the skin repair process. The icy cool plates of the machine helps to bring down my skin temperature, at the same time to tighten up my pores after the extraction process, to reduce the skin’s redness.

Facial Massage is done to ensure that the serum is well absorbed into my skin.

A customized hydrating Mask was applied on my skin to ensure that my skin gets back the moisture that was lost so that it will be plumped and bouncy again after the facial session.

The final massage is done for me to relax my face, followed by shoulder massage for relaxation and tension release. The massage was very good and the beautician was even skilled enough to release the knots on my shoulders. She warned me that they would be painful as she felt the knots were really tight on one side of my shoulders.

She is not only experienced but very skillful and detailed when doing her work. I enjoyed my facial time at Fresver very much.

Look at my face all plumped up with moisture and looking refreshed immediately after the facial! Special thanks to Jesslyn for helping me take photographs of me and making me felt so at home at Fresver.

Taking a hair leap forward with Apgujeong hair studio

Once in awhile I like to try something different to my hairstyle. I’ve gone Bob, re-bonding, straightening, curling and perming them too. If you want to look really different, you can even go to the extend of changing your hair colour. Unfortunately, I am not so adventurous… yet!

Perhaps one day when someone decides to sponsor me a full hair make-over with treatments and what nots, I might do some highlights or dye my hair with a “safe” colour. It is not that I am not game for it, but carrying a fanciful head might restrict me to certain jobs that I can do, if I am not working for myself at that point of time. It’s true, people judge us by our appearance all the time. Don’t you judge people too?

So I’ve shortlisted some hair salons to try but ultimately selected Apgujeong Hair Studio based on online reviews, the similar hair styles that had done before on other customers (for the particular service I wanted) as well as the price range and its proximity to home. I’ve been scouting awhile, and I realised that Apgujeong Hair Studio is always busy even on a weekday afternoon.

Apgujeong Hair Studio currently has 7 outlets:

Apgujeong Hair Studio @ Tampines 1
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ Junction 8
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ Waterway Point
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ Tiong Bahru Plaza
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ VivoCity
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ Great World City
Apgujeong Hair Studio @ JEM (Jurong East)

What is so unique about them is that they have a group of hair stylist, both local and Koreans to service their customers. You can, specifically asked to be styled by a Korean. They are also partnering with Mucota for their hair products so you can be assured that your hair is being well taken care of.

So after making appointment with them I was really anxious to see how I would finally look like with the new hair style which I wanted.

So this is me with my usual, boring straight hair which I had struggle to keep its length for a few months. It had not reached my desired length but I couldn’t tolerate it any longer. So bye bye boring hair!

While waiting, I was served tea and biscuit. There is also free wifi in the salon to keep you entertained while you get your hair services done. I noticed that Apgujeong Hair Studio even had their own look book and I was quite impressed by this. Not many Hair Studio has their own look book.

I had my hair washed by one of the local hair stylist while I waited for my Korean Hair Stylist to transform my hair.

There she is, my hair was then trimmed to the desired length and shape before it was being blown dry.

Next, application of hair chemical products to “soften and break” the bonds on my hair so that they can later be “shaped” into my desired style.

This process took quite awhile and they even had to make use of a machine to increase the speed of hair softening. It shows that my hair is in good condition. I have never done any bleaching and dying for that matter and I believe this explains why it was so difficult to soften my hair. The last time I curled my hair was 2 years back and that’s about it?

My hair was then washed off the chemicals again before more action takes place.

Tada!!!! Can you see my straight and silky hair? Actually we are still not quite done yet. This is not the final look. This was only to ensure that the top part of my hair strands were not flying around and messing up the final look.

My hair were then put into the curlers and attached to this machine for the real action to take place. This is the most torturing part as I can’t really move about much. Look at all the action going on there.

That moment when they removed the curlers on my hair I actually wondered if I was going to look like that for the next few months. I’m sure we are not done yet.

True enough, more chemicals were then added to my hair before they were washed and blow dried.

I loved the final look of my Mucota Omega Rebonding and Hair Perm that cost more than $300 and I feel that they are worth every penny for the amount of work that went into it.

In terms of services, I received quite a lot of attention having the staff asking if I needed my tea to be changed or refilled and people coming to check on my hair most of the time despite that the salon was so crowded while I was there. I was also rather happy with the recommendation that Yuna (my hair stylist) gave me, that lead me to the final look.

The only part that could be further improved is the language barrier. Yuna could only speak a few chinese words which was “okay” for us to get the hair done but she could not go further in the conversation.

As for the rest of the staff, the locals, they could speak but did little to help explain the hair procedures. It would definitely help the customers more by explaining to them what would be done to their hair so that they would feel more assured.

For pricing of their services, you can check out http://www.apgujeonghair.com/pricing.html so that you get a rough gauge of the prices before the services are done.

Thank you Yuna and team for taking care of me while I had my services done. It took almost 5 hours for this hair make-over but I am loving how they looked on me. I’ve since been complimented countless of times and even advised to maintain my hair this way.

I guess I am ready to maintain and rock these curls further with my upcoming new venture. Next, I am going to maintain my hair with healthy treatments and be trimming them in the upcoming months.

How do you like my new look? Comment and share away!

Healthy Living begins at Nature Glory

The idea of eating clean is certainly not new but how easy is it to detox our body? I will be sharing with you an easy to make, refreshing and detoxifying drink which will not only boost your energy levels but bring you a wealth of other benefits.

You are free to include additional ingredients into your drink if you like too. It’s all about being creative here.

Honey Aloe Vera with Chia Seeds Detox and Energy Drink

Ingredient List:

1) Aloe Vera Concentrate
2) Manuka Honey
3) Chia Seeds

Combine all 3 ingredients and make them into a refreshing drink.

You can make use of similar products of different brands but I will highly recommend you purchase your products from a trusted source such as from Nature Glory.

Nature’s Glory Premium Aloe Vera Concentrate Nature’s Glory Premium Whole Leaf Aloe Vera Concentrate:

  • Helps in the gastro-intestinal functions by improving intestinal disorders such as colitis, constipation, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, piles and systemic Candida.
  • Aids in skin conditions like burns, cuts, eczema, mouth ulcers, athletes’ foot, and other fungal / parasitic infections, psoriasis, radiations and sunburns.
  • Soothe pain due to inflammation.

I have plenty of aloe vera plants at home, but they get sticky and messy when we tried to abstract the flesh from it. This gives us much more convenience as we can make a drink out of it and drink it directly. You don’t have to worry about any bitter taste as it taste pretty much like water once you have diluted it. As it is a concentrate, i wouldn’t advise you to drink it straight from the bottle.

It is also harmless to add the aloe vera concentrate into your honey drink or plain water and fruit juices to get its additional benefits.

Nature’s Glory Manuka Honey

Nature’s Glory Organic Bioactive Manuka Honey is harvested in the south island of New Zealand and there are no presticides or additives use. They are no heat pasteurisation or irradiation and are only lightly filtered into a high quality-premium nutrient rich honey.

Highest anti-bacterial activity, Manuka Honey for ailments including wounds, ulcers of the skin, leg and stomach, cold sores, sore throat, gum diseases, diarrhea, eye infection, hemorrhoids, stomach health and others.

I love taking honey on its own as a health supplement and I had been taking Manuka Honey regularly since last year. I take a spoonful each evening before bed as a health supplement and I find it useful for my persistent cough. Taking Manuka Honey also reduces the risk that I get a mouth ulcer and sore throats. Sometimes i spread them onto my bread and pancakes too!

When made into a drink, I enjoy my honey drink with a dash of lemon juice and taken warm. Do you know that honey should not be taken hot (mixed with boiling water) due to the destruction of its natural enzymes, and that you should not use a metal spoon to scope your honey as you would corrode the spoon if left for a long period of time and hence pollute the honey in the long term.

Nature’s Glory Chia Seeds :

  • Very rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, calcium, iron, protein, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B, C and E.
  • Provides a good source of antioxidants and contain a variety of amino acids.
  • Gluten-free, chia seeds are good for high blood pressure and cardiovascular health, improve digestion, and have an ability to stabilize blood sugar level.
  • The anti-inflammatory properties of chia seeds are beneficial for arthritis.
  • Chia seeds boost metabolism, good for weight loss and weight maintenance programs, and help in improving the function of the brain.

I’ve been wanting to try these Chia Seeds for quite some time already. If you take sesame seed before, these taste similar and are as harmless as those sesame seeds only with a thin slippery jelly-like surface when they are lightly infused in liquids.

I enjoy chewing on them when i have my overnight oats.

Other than these healthy foods which you can make yourself a nice glass of drink. You can also start feeding your body with the “king of alkaline food”

Plum Balls

These Plum Balls are rich in organic acids and minerals to help promote vitality, convert fat to energy, aid in digestive systems and boost immunity, and improve liver functions. They also help to inhibit the growth of bacteria in the water, food and blood.

  • Plum Balls promote vitality and retards aging.
  • Lactic acid is produced and builds up in the body due to illnesses, drugs, poor eating habits, food additives and excessive meat and sugar intake. Excessive lactic acid can cause fatigue and muscle cramps. Metabolism decreases and food will not be properly converted into energy.
  • High content of citric and phosphoric acids to break down lactic acid; improve metabolism, remove hangovers and  retards aging.

You can take these plum balls as a daily supplement by chewing, biting or simply swallowing them. At the moment, swallowing them seems the most preferred for me.
While you can’t see the benefits immediately, you can’t deny the fact that they improve your health.

Safari Zoo Run 2017 and 5 major animal distractions

Hey guys! It is finally the day of the Safari Zoo Run. My husband and I got up early and headed to the Singapore Zoological Gardens. As the race for the 5.5km family run starts at 8am. We timed ourselves to reach our destination at around 7.15am so that we could spend time to explore the race village and take some pictures at the entrance of the zoo before the race commence. You are recommended to reach the race village 1 hour before your flag off time.

Photo of us with the race bibs and race tees all ready for our first run of the year.

The first thing that we noticed at the race village which was set up at the car park was that the baggage area. It was relatively empty. The bags and queue was very well organized. Most of the runners have already checked in their bags.

There is even an option to take a shower at the Grohe mobile containers if you like. Don’t worry about privacy, as the ladies and gents had separate containers.

As it is very important to stay hydrated throughout the race, we picked up a cup of water each before we get ready to be flagged off. There were multiple hydration points around the race route and we were offered either water or a cup of cold isotonic drink choice, no lemon tea or sodas unfortunately, for obvious reasons.

There were standees of the various mascots around the race village and race routes to distract your attention. Taking a photo with the team you support will gain points for your team. Here’s a photograph of me with #teamahmeng .

At 8am sharp, we were flagged off all together. There were no delays and the flag off was smoothly executed. Kudos to the Hivelocity team.

Taking a shot with Ah Meng because I belong to Team Ah Meng!

There were 5 major animals of distraction along our race route which are the Zebra, White Tiger, Elephant, Lion and the Mandrill. They made us slow down to take pictures and have a good look at them. The other animals were less distracting with some at their hideouts and others having fun by themselves.

The winner of the distraction goes to the Mandrill as it had an amazing “opera” like face that attracted my attention for quite a long while.

Spotted an Ah Meng standee and we decided to slow down to take a photo. All this photos add points to the team which you are supporting on race day when you post them on instagram with the #teamahmeng hashtag.

Yes, almost 80% of orangutan habitats are lost to deforestation in the last 2o years. Do you know that?

At the 4km mile! One of the road marshals kindly offered to take a photograph for us, so why not?

We managed to finish the race by taking a brisk walk throughout and it took us about an hour to complete the route with major stops to admire and take photographs of the zoo animals and standees.

As we had free entrance to the Singapore Zoological Gardens and River Safari, we decided to spend the afternoon continuing our adventures. Other than catching some of the animal shows, we went around to take more photographs.

The best part of the River Safari experience was none other than seeing Jiajia and Kaikai for the first time.

Overall, we had a very pleasant and fun experience exploring these 2 places and participating for our first Zoo Run. We would love to be back for the race again next year and perhaps even make it a yearly event where we both could count down together, and look forward to.

Share with me in the comments how was your experience if you were there too. Watch out for the upcoming races and hope to see all of you in the 2018 Singapore Safari race.

Disclaimer: We were invited for the run by Wildlife Reserves Singapore and Hivelocity. All expressed thoughts and experience are truthful.

Dining at the.twenty.canvan with the Entertainer App

About 5 minutes walk away from Lavender MRT Station, you can find your way to The.twenty.cavan, which is a modern cuisine restaurant, owned by Andrew and Alex whom are both professional chefs. Their food are infused with strong Chinese influences and offers a twist to the otherwise traditional Chinese dishes which is often prepared by your grand parents.

Their rustic, industrial dining area is their way to acknowledge Jalan Besar’s association with lighting shops as you can see from their beautiful light bulbs decors hanging around the restaurant.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Take a look at the ambience in there and you’ll fall in love with it.

We were first served with their Garden Green Salad with pan-fried prawns, cashew nuts, fresh berries and green chili dressing ($12) which was a refreshing dish that was quickly wiped out by the table. The rocket greens were well complimented with the mixture of fruits and nuts which makes this a healthy starter into the night.

Next up, we had the Mushroom Skewers which comprises peppercorn-flavoured Portobello and Shiitake mushrooms ($8), Deep-fried Soft Shell Crab with curry chicken floss ($9) and Quad Seafood ($12) which comprises top shell, scallop, prawn, baby octopus tossed with mint hot bean sauce served with jellyfish. A choice of three starters will cost you about $21 and four starters cost you about $26. This is in my opinion a good platter to share with a gang of friends. My favourite two goes to the soft shell crab and quad seafood for seafood lovers. The mushroom skewers were also delectable and bursting with their juices when placed in my mouth.

Moving on to the mains, the Red Rice Braised Pork Ribs with roasted vegetables ($20) is Chef Andrew’s interpretation of the popular Hakka chicken dish made with red glutinous rice wine. The sauce was delicious even though I am personally not a fan of the red glutinous rice wine. They can be easily ripped out of their bones when cooked to perfection, also coupled with the roasted vegetables, they were heavenly. I have a soft spot for ribs by the way so it made it to one of my favourites for the evening.

If ribs are not your thing, try the Cavan Breakfast of brioche, bacon, pork bratwurst, sautéed button mushrooms, corn kernels and choice of eggs ($18). This is served all day and I think they make a great brunch or supper idea. Most of us loved the pork bratwurst and the corn kernels. The bread was surprisingly tasty when eaten on its own too.

Crispy Fish & Chips ($17)
. Tilapia coated with lager batter and fries with the skin on was unfortunately not appealing for me because the crust batter was too thick. I would prefer something thinner. The fries on the side however was very good.

Canton Roast Chicken with homemade Thai chili sauce and black rice ($18)
was a very successful and well-liked dish that made it to almost everyone’s favourite that evening.  The black rice was however, quite tasteless when eaten on its own. We loved every bits of the chicken skin on this. Highly recommended dish.

Chicken Galangal Rice Bowl ($18)
. This dish had diced chicken tossed with rice in blue ginger sauce with zucchini, tomatoes and edamame. Guess what, everyone thought those were fish or meat floss but none could identify that it was blue ginger. We loved every shred and pieces of those, and the chicken was very nicely done too. This dish is worthy of your every penny.

Stir-fried Blueberry Lamb Chop with cous cous ($20). This is a chef specialty that you should order when you are there. The cous cous had a very interesting flavour and the Lamb Chop tasted somewhat like the local sweet and sour pork in berries sauce.

For desserts, take your pick from the Pumpkin Yam Puree with chilled coconut cream ($8) which is a modern version of the traditional Teochew orh nee which has aloe vera and pandan juice mixed in with the pumpkin and yam puree. This is so good that it melts in your mouth.

Or the Matcha Pudding with mixed berries, black sesame cream and a dollop of pulut hitam ($7). I love the pulut hitam on this.

Also try the Lemon Pudding ($7) which has a hint of mango to balance out the tartness of fresh lemon juice. Something zesty to end your meal is always nice.

For drinks, the.twenty.canvan offers four house wines – two red (both from France) and two white (one from New Zealand and the other from France). The Ferraud & Fils’ pinot noir and chardonnay are sold by the glass ($20++) while the other two, the Sileni sauvignon blanc (France) and Baron Philippe de Rothschild cabernet sauvignon (NZ) are sold by the bottle ($80++).

If you are not an alcoholic, the House Sodas ($8 each) will be suitable for you. Some of those includes the Peach Lemonade, Blueberry Lemonade, and Lemon & Ginger and Spicy Mango. They are available upon ordering.

They also have Corona Extra, a Mexican beer; and Japanese beer – three types of Asahi (Black, Premium and Dry) ($12 each); two flavours of Hitachino Nest craft beer (Yuzu and Red Rice Ale) ($16 each).

To make it less hefty on your pockets, allowing you to enjoy the most savings from your dining experience, you will be happy to know that the.twenty.cavan is one of the merchants on both the Entertainer Singapore and the Cheers Singapore 2017 apps.

the.twenty.cavan offers three 1 for 1 main course Entertainer vouchers. This includes their all-day breakfast items. Premium items, marked with a “P” on their menu, however are excluded from this deal. (Check items in blue fonts on my article)

The Entertainer Singapore app features more than 1,700 Buy One Get One Free deals across choice merchants in F&B, beauty and fitness, attractions, retail and luxury hotels worldwide. Breathya – Breathe better with Halotherapy

The urban people are plagued with so many health issues. Every other family that I know of has an adult or child which is suffering from the following:

  • Allergies
  • Bronchial Infection
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Chronic ENT illness
  • Cold/Flu
  • Dermatitis
  • Ear Infection
  • Sinusitis
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Snoring

Etc… Etc.. the list goes on. If you don’t suffer from any of the above, you are considered quite lucky because your body immunity is really strong, or maybe you just refuse to admit that you suffer from either one of these.

So what happens when you suffer from the above? Do you seek advise from a doctor and get prescribed to tons of medications, antibiotics, steroid creams etc?

Would you be happy to try on a drugless treatment? I was very privileged to be invited to Breathya to learn and try out their treatment for myself, so let me share with you my experience.

Breathya, launched in August 2016, is a respiratory care and wellness centre introduces a revolutionary treatment known as the Halotherapy or Salt Therapy. It uses 100% natural, drugless and risk-free therapy treatment which only requires you to sit in an enclosed salt haven with pharmaceutical graded himalayan salt crystals and controlled air humidity.

Breathya is owned by Mr Krishna Bagaria who was in an import and export business prior to opening this centre. He had asthma since young and was intrigued by the effectiveness of  this treatment when he experienced it for himself in a Europe trip. He then decides to bring this treatment over to Singapore, so that more people can benefit from it.

I love that it has a cozy, clean and very comfortable ambience. It is also very well lit, which means photographs taken around here will turn out great.

As you are not advised to bring your mobile phones, cameras and electronic gadgets in the rooms due to the risk of having your devices trapped with salt particles, they have lockers for you to place your belongings. I like this idea as it allows you to disconnect from your devices and chat with the people around you instead.

Though new in Singapore, the salt treatment is already well recognized in Europe and America since the 18th Century.

Halogenerator, is used in these salt rooms to generate the condition in salt mines and to accelerate the beneficial effects. The salt gets grind into tiny micro particles and dispersed into the salt room producing negative ions which helps to heal the body and promote an overall well being.

Dry salt is anti bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and anti Microbal. It draws out the fluid away from your mucus, shirking and drying it up enabling you to breathe freely. Look at the wall, the ceiling and even the floor, they are covered entirely with salt.

There are salt lamps placed everywhere, which is placed in the salt room too. It looks so cool like I was in some Igloo house or cave but nope, its a salt haven. You can purchase one of these salt lamps if you like too! They are priced $90 – $120.

There is even a room which is specially designed for kids so that they can play with the salt as they enjoy the treatment.

This treatment is suitable for children from as young as 2 months old and for everyone. It last for 45 minutes for children and 60 minutes for adults. Each room can host 6 adults and 2 children comfortably. Currently there is a promotion where its $60 for an adult, and $55 for children. Consultation is free.

Although we were in there for only about 30 minutes for the trial, we could feel the salt particles all around us, even on our skin and clothing. Even as we speak, we could taste the salt. It was very interesting and relaxing to be chatting with friends while enjoying such a unique experience in relaxing music with such a cozy ambience.

Don’t mind my wrong outfit here as I don’t have any warning beforehand

Tip: To fully enjoy the salt haven, wear white or light coloured clothing. You should totally come in your bikini (if you are not sharing room with others), or come in t-shirt and shorts to enjoy having the salt particles fall all over you. My skin feels so smooth after the treatment.

The staff were complimenting me on how much my skin had improved (fairer after the treatment), but I told them that was because there were salt particles left on my skin!

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have experienced this and how relaxed I felt when I was in the room. After coming out from the room, I felt I could breathe better and my nose was all cleared. That night, I slept well too. I didn’t see any improvements on my face eczema though. You are recommended to continue the treatment for 4 – 25 treatment before you will see actual results but don’t worry, they have packages so it will be less hefty on your pockets.

Everyone should try this for themselves for at least once, be it to experience the salt haven, to take it as a relax trip or just to enjoy the beautiful room. Pamper yourself today and see salt in a different way!

You are the right one for me – Bioderma Sensibo

Do you find yourself constantly struggling to find the right products for your sensitive skin? Trying out every product in the market that is labelled “suitable for sensitive skin”, or checking the labels and ensuring that the product is alcohol free, contains no colouring and fragrance before you pick it up.

Look no further because Bioderma has their own range of products under the Bioderma Sensibio range, which is catered for the sensitive skin people, just like me. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to finally test these out for myself. Find out more about these products and how to redeem a 3 days trial kit for free at the end of my post.

Bioderma’s Sensibio range of products is developed specifically for sensitive skin. Featuring innovative patented formulas, they are highly effective in boosting skin’s tolerance level and soothing irritation.

Bio Derma Sensibio H20 retails at $15.90 for 100ml, $28.90 for 250ml (the bottle shown in pic), $41.90 for 500ml

The Bio Derma Sensibio H20 is highly favoured by many beauty salons and is used practically everywhere whenever I told them I had sensitive skin, this is what they will use on my face, and this is what they will recommend me to use at home. It has therefore became one of my favourite make-up removers even before I officially try them out for myself at home. If the professionals are even using this products that are widely available, something must be right?

The Bio Derma Sensibio H20 is approved by dermatologists, it has a well-researched innovation which is formulated with highly purified water to suit even the most sensitive skin, no wonder it is adored by even the top makeup artists and celebrities.

The Bioderma Sensibio H2O feels gentle on my skin and I only need a small drop of it to remove all the make-up on my face. The best thing about it, has to be the non-rinse formula, which is great for nights after partying, when you are want to remove all your make-up and hit the sack quickly.

This can also act as a cleanser, so you don’t have to buy another product to wash your face if you don’t wish to. As they are made from the highest grade of pharmaceutical water that is completely free of impurities and irritants, they are a clear choice for sensitive skin.

Rating: ★★★★★

For light/gentle make-up (Foundation, eyeliner, eye shadow and lipstick) : 1 cotton pad with about 2 drops of Bioderma Sensibio H2O is all you need to remove them.

For heavier make-up (With multiple layers of eye shadow, blusher, mascara, brow liner etc: You may require 2-3 pieces.

I love that it removes make-up easier and my skin feels so smooth and clean after just wiping. There is really no need to soak your cotton pad with so much of the liquid, a few drops will do.

The next 2 items are new inclusion to the Bioderma Sensibio Range.

Bio Derma Sensibio H20 Gel Moussant retails at $33.90, 200ml

The Bio Derma Sensibio H2O Gel Moussant is a gentle foaming gel with lipid-restoring properties that hydrates and calms sensitive skin. It is enriched with skin conditioning ingredients such as coco-glucoside and glyceryl oleate, it also has lipid-restoring and moisturising properties. Suitable for day and night use on both face and eyes.

It can be used alone or be part of a double cleansing routine after using the Sensibio H2O. It is good enough to be used to remove your make-up too.

It’s gentle foaming allows me to remove my skin’s dirt and impurities thoroughly, nourishing them at the same time. The gel moussant is light and leave no tightness on my skin after using. It is also hydrating and leaves a gentle softness on my skin after using. There is a gentle fragrance to it, not the heavy floral or perfume type, so it is safe on the sensitive skin.

I have been using them in the day and night, since I have gotten them and they are working well for me so far. I will consider switching to the gel moussant after this bottle runs out.

Bio Derma Sensibio Dermatological Water retails at $19.90, 150ml

I have been using purified water and mist for awhile now and they really work wonders for my skin. Not only are they skin savers for me whenever I get fur stuck onto my face during grooming, they offers quick relief to my cracking eczema skin when they get so dry.

You can set your make-up with these purified water after you put on your make-up or use them after your sports to offer a quick relief from the heat. A tip for you, I sometimes like to wet my sponges with these instead of water before I apply my cushion compacts too. It does makes application a breeze.

Using highly purified water that is enhanced by a perfect balance of mineral salts and oligo-elements, the Bioderma Sensibio Dermatological Water soothes skin while maintaining healthy skin cells.  A remarkable ally for sensitive skin, it combats various skin reactive signs. Soothing agents such as mannitol, rhamnose and zinc also provide quick and lasting relief to sensitive skin. Use it as often as desired to freshen up skin or to remove the balance of mask left behind on face. No need to pat dry.

Reflection Organics Make-up Review

What are my thoughts after trying out the organic make-up which I had received from Reflections? Let us first take a look at the products.

♥︎ Mineral Eye Shadow in Pink Garnet

There are a total of 16 natural, blendable shades available.
These mineral eye shadow are very wearable and long-lasting color. A tiny bit is all you need and you can blend them lightly over your eye lids. Adding more mineral powder would create a stronger look. By the way, these shades can be customised by blending with foundation or mixing with lip colors.

Instructions for Use:
Load up the bristles with shadow powder, tap off the excess, and gently press shadow onto your eyelids. This helps to prevent powder fallout from the brush tip.

I don’t usually like mineral make-up, and true enough I didn’t like the shadow powder when I used it for the first time as I find the look I had created was too strong and heavy  (suits a night look more than a day look). I did not expect the shadow powder to be so pigmented.

Hence, I tried to reduce the amount of the powder to half of what I’ve used the second time I put them on, and was amazed that it worked for me for the day look.

The trick is to apply only a little of the powder, dust off the excess and blend on your lids, adding more of them if you need the pigment to be stronger. Don’t be greedy and pick up too much of these as you will find your eyes over done. You only need a tiny little bit of it as these powders are really pigmented, they lasted a full day for me and i love its beautiful shade. You can also use this as a base colour and add on more colours if you like.

Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Zinc Oxide, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, 77492, 77499), Retinyl Palmitate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol. May Contain: Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Ultramarines (CI 77007)

Next up is the…

♥︎ Camouflage Cream in Au Naturel
88% Organic | Gluten-Free | Vegan | Cruelty-Free

This Makeup is beneficial for your skin as it is rich in Vitamin E, contains organic coconut, cocoa seed butter, castor seed, and jojoba seed oil, this hydrating concealer heals and nourishes skin while keeping it flawlessly dewy. It is available in five natural shades.

Instructions for Use:
Apply on targeted areas, let product sit on skin for a few seconds, then gently blend it into skin with fingertips. The warmth from your fingers will work with the natural oils to melt the product into the skin for a flawless finish.

I tried to use a brush to pick up the product and find myself struggling to dig it out. The cream is quite dry and impossible to pick up. I have to dig my brush through it. I find it difficult to blend on my skin too and it did not provide enough coverage other than around the under eye and tiny spots. For major spots, and reddish skin areas, it did not really work for me. Therefore, it is recommended that you pick it up with your fingers and work it in your skin slowly.

Last but not least…

♥︎Lip Glaze  – Roasted Cherry
90% Organic | Gluten-Free | Vegan | Cruelty-Free

Drench your lips with this delectable collection that is infused with certified organic, antioxidant-rich botanical extracts, essential oils and pigments. This rich blend of shea butter and coconut oil delivers lasting hydration and superior shine without the stickiness.

Available in 14 luscious shades.

Instructions for Use:
Use on its own or over Lip Butter.

I liked this lip glaze on its own as its smells delicious and feels moisturizing enough. It has a deep purple shade which is a trendy shade and fits into my normal look. A little goes a long way, you do not have to use too much of the product unless you want a strong purple lip look. I tried it for the first time and find myself too gothic.

The second time I used a thin layer and liked how it looked but it did not last as most of it were “eaten” away by me as I went on a food trail. I guess I have to find the right balance, but overall I quite liked the lip glaze in terms of its moisturizing factor and colour pay off .

*Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil,*Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, *Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, *Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Kaolin, *Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa Butter), *Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Powder, *Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), *Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Extract, *Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, *Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Vanilla Planifolia. 4 Course Healthy Steaming at Rong Fu Ji Seafood Steam Pot

Hey everyone, I have been seeing so many foodies trying out the recent steaming concept of having their food. By steaming our food, we do not need cooking oil and heavy seasonings. Unlike barbecue food, we also omit the risk of getting cancer due to eating the char from our over-grilling and unlike boiling, we get the flavor and nutrients of the food retained on the food.

Healthy eating is the “IN” thing now, so here I am at Rong Fu Ji Steam pot located at the Grandstand (Turf Club) to try out their steam pot.

Rong Fu Ji Steam pot had a nice and cozy ambience with both internal and external sittings available. It is a quiet weekday because not many will have seafood as lunch.

The base set for 2 persons is priced at $78.

Step 1: Select your porridge base

Before you select the first course, you would be asked to select your porridge base for your last course. We have selected the sweet potato porridge as our base. I would recommend you to choose the light ones as you will be overwhelmed with too much food and different taste from the “essence” of your seafood, fish, meat and vegetables, by the time you reached your finale.

Step 2: Steam the seafood platter, there is no need for selection here, everything is in a standard menu, unless you order additional items.

The first course that we had consisted of mainly seafood like the Lala clams, Scallops,  Flower Crabs and Tiger prawns. Some of the items that was supposed to be be in the seafood platter were not available so we were given extra pieces of “something else”.

The prawns were so fresh that they were still moving and alive when they were being placed on the steamer. All the ingredients were fresh, non seasoned and sweet.

Approximately after 4 minutes of cooking, there was a timer at the table, so that the waitress is alerted every time the food is ready.  This process was helped out by a waitress that served us, so we did not need to lift a finger and need not risk getting scaled when the food is placed into the steamer.

Step 3: Select your preferred fish between a pomfret or a sea-bass.

Next up, you can make a selection from either a pomfret or a sea bass. We choose to have the later since we can easily steam a pomfret at home.

Did you notice that the meat was already sliced out and there were practically no bones left? They had also garnished it lightly with ginger strips and carrot. The sea bass is very fresh and there is no fishy taste or smell at all.

Step 4: Select the meat you preferred (you can choose between sliced pork and beef) We have selected the sliced pork in our platter. The vegetables are from the standard set.

The waitress steamed the various vegetables, sweet corn, carrot, enoki mushroom and pork slices together.

Step 5: After all the feasting, all the essence or juices and nutrients from steaming of your food gets flowed down onto your porridge.

The waitress added an egg and stirred in spring onions for us to enjoy our finale dish. This is the only dish where no waiting time is required.

I just had to show you this photograph. We polished off every single course including the finale porridge. I was surprised that we could finish this as well.

Overall, I loved the ambience of the place, it is spacious with both indoor and outdoor sitting. The service of the staff was also good and the staff was polite and prompt in serving us. She was also friendly to answer my doubts and was cheerful all the time when serving us. I also liked that the food is fresh and not seasoned. The only disadvantage for this restaurant is their location and that they do not get a good lunch crowd due to the nature of the food they serve. Otherwise, it is healthy to have my food steamed and I enjoyed every bit of this privately hosted food tasting session.

Thanks for having us.

5 Things to check out at Chinatown this Lunar New Year

Hey! Where have all the time gone? The Lunar New Year is fast approaching. We are left with  about a few days to go. I Hope you have already prepared well for the up-coming Lunar New Year Holiday, finished your spring cleaning and bought new clothes for the new year.

If you are done, and wondering what to do and where to go until the Lunar New Year, read on for my recommendations. You might have already seen some of these sharing via my Instagram account http://www.instagram.com/pearlywerkz .

For now, let us take a quick look at some of the places which we have visited during the short Chinatown heritage tour with the special guest of the day, Sora Ma.

(1) Chinatown Heritage Centre at 48 Pagoda Street

Learn about the significance of the Rooster and how it became one of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs. The rooster played a significant role, by giving morning call to the farmers, (those days when alarm was not invented yet). There were also merchandises made from their feather like the famous household item, the feather duster.

Learn how to play the chaptek  (which are made with the rooster’s feathers) from the Samsui woman. If you are able to continuously kick the chaptek for 8 times, or you happen to be born in the year of the Rooster, you will gain yourself a free entry to the Heritage Center just by having your photos taken. Enquire at the Heritage Centre’s counter.

Do also find out why do people eat from the “Gong Ji Wan”, rooster bowl and be surprised with your new found knowledge of the meaning of the items that are marked on the bowl.

More details about the tour and ticket prices, can be found on https://chinatownheritagecentre.com.sg/.

(2) Hit the famous festive street bazaar where everything and anything Lunar New Year related is being sold.

We visited one of the wax meat store along the street bazaar to check out some yummy waxed food. The uncle shared with us that he only sells these less fatty types of waxed meat in the Singapore street bazaar during the Lunar New Year period. Before that, he would only produce a small amount of these in his factory. The waxed duck cost about $7 – $8 for one, this is my favourite as I grew up eating waxed meat during the Lunar New Year, that this had became a tradition for us.

We learn that during the winter seasons in the early years, it was difficult to keep fresh produce, so people would preserve these meat so that they can be kept for a longer time.

To cook them, you can just steam it over your rice or incorporate them into your clay pot dishes. Hmm, speaking of it makes me drool already.

Take the chance to soak up the atmosphere along Temple street.

(3) Visit YouthEats @ Temple street where you will find both the traditional Lunar New Year tidbits, and in addition, some trendy food selections.

Stop by and try the Shabu Burger from Whats That Food. It tasted quite delicious and flavourful, but please be prepared to drown yourself in water afterwards.

I love these Yuzu ice packs which were specially made only during the Lunar New Year season. It offered us some heat relief.

If you haven’t got a chance to try this current trending Dragon’s Breath or “Smoke Out”, there is a store here which you can go to somewhere beside WTF’s store.

You may have seen a video of myself and Sora puffing these out. It is quite fun and is a unique experience. These are flavoured meringues infused with nitrogen gas to give you the “smoking effect”.

Popular Mochi Pudding store which has a variety of flavours. We liked the peach and sour plum ones. There are other flavours and the vendor will let you try them.

Grab some nuts and tidbits for your guest. This store offers one of the best deals, they save on packaging and give the cost-savings to consumers. The store owner recommends going for the traditional types of Melon Seeds especially the red ones which allows one to bring the luck home.

(4) Find the best spots for the light-ups which is on the Garden Bridge that connects Chinatown to People’s Park Complex.

This bridge not only provides visitors with a place nice view for photo-taking, you can chill and relax on the chairs around if you are tired from walking and pushing in the crowd.

Here’s a group photo with the Heritage Trail friends I’ve made that day.

(5) Last but not least, Visit the YHFlea at Lepark, located on top of People’s Park Complex , level 6. This is where all the hipsters sell their pre-love and where you can shop and take beautiful photos with amazing views.

This view somehow looked like the houses in Hong Kong. I love how the photograph turned out to be.

As this is the last stop of the day, I took the opportunity to have my photograph taken here with the gorgeous and witty Sora Ma who was our guide and host for the whole tour. She was very friendly and chatted with us throughout the tour.

Walking around, i feel that it is so creative that people can even set up a “booth” at the car boot. So ingenious!

We had a very fun filled day with the PR and host for the trail. Thanks for having all of us and letting us have the opportunity to learn more about the significance of the Rooster.

Thanks for helping us uncover the hidden gems located in Chinatown as well as allowing us to try those food which we had not tried before.
