The 5 steps ultimate skincare regime (Day)

I believe you hope to achieve a beautiful skin with the least amount of effort in the day, as you would love to lay a while longer on your bed before you rush to get ready for work. I would love to share with you some of my skincare tips as a beauty blogger, with very sensitive skin and battling with skin eczema issues.

Step 1. Cleansing
Use a facial cleanser or facial wash which is suitable for your skin type. (Dry/Oily/Sensitive/Combination Skin). It is not recommended to share a facial cleanser with your partner or family, unless both of you have similar skin types, as each of these facial cleansers are formulated to work in a different way. There are people whom I know of, who will wake up from bed, washing their face with merely tap water, thinking that this is perfectly fine because they had been indoors all night. This is not acceptable because the environment that we sleep in often had bacteria and germs thriving in them.

Skin Caring Tips:
*After cleansing, make use of a fresh and clean piece of tissue paper or cotton wool to gently pat dry your face.

*Some people may also make use of a facial sponge (which get moldy or harden easily), or facial towel (which is more environmentally friendly). No matter which is your choice, do ensure that you wash them regularly.

Step 2. Tone
Apply a toner to your skin after cleansing as it helps to remove the excess oil on your skin. Do not shy away from toners even if you are suffering with a sensitive skin as the right toners will help to soothe your red, flaming and peeling skin. Do however, look for toners that are free from fragrance and alcohol.

Skin Caring Tips:
*Application can be through the use of cotton pads. Swipe them gently over your face and neck in upwards motion. Do not scrub. Some toners can also be applied directly using your palms and in patting motion. Do ensure that your palms are clean before application as you do not want more bacteria on your skin.

Step 3. Serum (Optional)
Serums are thicker than liquid and denser than face oils. They are applied onto the skin right after we tone, and before we apply our moisturizers. They serve as an additional skin booster through a concentration of active ingredients. As such, they tend to increase hydration, and supplement the “missing nutrients” in your basic skincare products.

Skin Caring Tips:
* You would usually apply a serum by dispensing it using its dropper, cupping your hands, warming up the serum before you gently pat them onto your face.

Step 4. Sunblock/Sunscreen (SPF)
Some dermatologist recommend the use of sunblock before applying a light moisturizer due to the fear of chemical reactions from active ingredients which may hinder absorption rate, while others say that it should be the last thing you apply on to your skin. So does it matters?

“Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun’s rays. Higher-number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s rays, but no sunscreen can block 100 percent of the sun’s rays. Currently, there is not any scientific evidence that indicates using a sunscreen with an SPF higher than 50 can protect you better than a sunscreen with an SPF of 50.”

Skin Caring Tips:
* I have recently started going for moisturizers which contains some form of sunblock in them. In this way, I don’t have to worry about which comes first and forgetting my sunscreen. Don’t forget to apply them on your neck areas and exposed body areas too.

* A sunscreen should be applied 20-30 minutes before you head out as they take time to soak into your skin to form the protective layer. They should also be re-applied after water activities and every 2 hours so that you can receive the maximum sun protection.

*You need to apply a sunblock even if you are indoors because UV rays penetrate through clouds and windows. UV rays are present even in florescent lights.

*You need to remove your sunscreen with make-up removers before you head to bed.


Step 5. Moisturizer
Whether you are suffering from a dry skin or oily skin, a moisturizer is always encouraged. However, do not over moisturize as this will lead to clogging of pores. Moisturizing your skin helps prevents a flaky, dry skin and helps to restore your skin’s required moisture.
