Healthy Nuts, Healthy Crunching with Garden Picks

Sitting in front of the television set watching your favourite programs? Feeling bored and looking for something to munch? I know you must be itching to munch on something. I often feel that way especially mid way through the day, just after lunch and before dinner.

Potato chips no doubt are nice to munch on but they are just too fattening, oily and unhealthy. Some of my friends and colleagues hesitate to offer me unhealthy snacks as they know I am the health conscious one, I recommend them cassava chips instead.

I am thankful that recently I got acquainted with some healthy nuts and snacks from Garden Picks. They are my current love now.

1
From Left to Right:
Philippines Mango, Vegetable Chips Medley, Honey Mustard Soya Crisps, Crispy Lotus Seed, Dry-Roasted Green Soybean (Center) and Salted Caramel Peanut.

6Philippines Mango (Top Seller) – $3.80/100g
The Philippines variety mango is known as the king of mango because of its high quality taste profile and creamy taste texture. They are also believed to be an excellent source of Vitamins A & C.

Who doesn’t love the princess of fruits? I love mangoes so needless to say I love these. Pakistan and Thai mangoes taste great too, so they can consider that if they as their secondary source the next time they ran out of some Philippines mango. We have already cleared this pack of mangoes as I am typing this.

5
Vegetable Chips Medley -$3.80/50g
Crunchy, veggie! These chips are bursting with flavours from greens, and they are a delicious alternative to ordinary potato chips.

Perhaps, you can introduce your young children to start eating vegetables this way. I think it looks like yong tau fu without the fish paste. Now give me my dry noodles!

2
Honey Mustard Soya Crisps – $3.80/120g
Honey Mustard Soya Crisps (from Australia). The ultimate snack mix is crispy, sweet, and savory all at once. An irresistible snack loaded with honey mustard mix, and they are made from GM-Free and Australian-grown soya beans!

If I didn’t read the packaging I would have easily mistaken these as the Muruku snack that the locals love. I like the interesting flavours that burst out all at once when I chew on them. This snack is irresistible.

salted caramel
Salted Caramel Peanuts – $3.80/170g
Salted Caramel Peanut Peanuts are actually simple legumes (not nuts) which are rich in monounsaturated fats, the type of fat which is emphasized in heart-healthy diets. Coated with fragrant salted caramel, they make a great snack on-the-go or as and when you crave some small bites.

This reminds me very much of my sugar coated peanuts. I never enjoyed eating salted nuts and would go for the sugar coated ones but this version beats them hands down. Salty and sweet, I like the combination.

4
Green Soybeans (Edamame) – $3.80/220g
Green Soybeans are among the few plant-based foods that supply complete protein. They have long been a staple in Japanese cuisine. If you are too busy to cook, have some of these in snack form to get that protein boost!

The first time I had something close to these was during Chinese New Year. Somebody gave us a jar of those mixed dry beans with wolf berries and a mixture of dried vegetables. I like this because it is so fragrant and I feel healthier snacking on these healthy beans as compared to nuts and crackers.

3

Crispy Lotus Seeds (TOP SELLER) – $3.80/60g
Lotus seeds are valued for nutritional and healing properties in Chinese medicine, and are used in many recipes as well as herbal formulas. This crispy version makes a great snack anytime of the day!

This is my mum’s favourite. I like everything lotus, from lotus root soup, lotus crisp (the one we eat during Chinese New Year) and lotus seeds too. My mum would always save the seeds from the soup for me. Seems like we have another alternative now.

There is an on-going promotion now. Purchase any 3 packs of these snacks for $10. Feel free to purchase in bulk packs.

I think that these garden picks not only taste great, but offers you a healthier alternative to your usual snacks. The best thing is that you can go guilt-free after chomping down on them. Remember to drink loads of water after you snack on them thou.

Food Tasting at Okinawa Gelato – Drool Worthy

Are you a fan of ice-cream? Yet you don’t wish to add on more calories to your diet? I had the opportunity to check out this gelato brand which came all the way from Okinawa, Japan. They are the choice gelato in Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea and voted as the best in Okinawa.

3

When given a choice, you should choose gelato over ice-cream because even the Minons says “Gelato…” and not ice-cream. Ok.. I know you are feeling the chills already. Let’s get back on point on the benefits of choosing gelato over ice-cream.

2

  1. Gelato tends to be more flavorful and richer in their flavours
  2. You’re paying for a denser product which contains lesser fat compared to a regular ice-cream as gelato uses milk while ice-cream uses cream. Gelato also contains fewer egg yolks. If you put them in numbers, you are getting 5% fat from gelato compared to an ice-cream which contain 15-30%.

7

Why choose Okinawa Gelato then?

  1. The Okinawa Gelato uses only Hokkaido and Yamakawa milk compared to local flavours that uses peanut butter, gula melaka and milo. These gelato uses natural flavours found in Okinawa. The gelato is made using a traditional confectionery method which is in line with the Okinawa tradition.
  2. Only the finest ingredients are used to bring out the finest gelato. There are no artificial flavorings or enhances done. This made them safe for eating even for children. Which also gives them a shorter shelf life (i.e- 1-2weeks maximum)

1

What are the available flavors to choose from?

There are a total of 30 flavors but due to certain constrains and restrictions, they currently have only 7 flavors for you to try and buy.

Shikuwasa sorbert :
Made in ogimi village. The tangu sweetness of the green fruit is surprising refreshing and fruity.

This is an equivalent to the Japanese lime which tasted different from the local limes. It is less sour but citrus rich and refreshing. It is mine and my hubby’s favorite flavor, unfortunately they already ran out of it.

Okinawa tofu :
Made in Nanho city. Okinawan tofu, being extremely high in protein, is often referred to as “longevity food”. The overall gelato is gently rich with Okinawa soyabeans.

You can taste the tofu but be pleasantly surprised as tofu tends to be tasteless, but not this. The flavor is quite rich and there is a gentle milk sweetness taste to it.

4

Purple sweet potato :
From Yomitan villange and Miyako island. The purple sweet potato is made into velvety paste before blending into the gelato. The overall taste combined a mild sweetness and intense potato “punch”.

I thought this tasted like mashed sweet potato. I can’t really taste the milk in it but sweet potato lovers will love it.

Matcha :
Using tea leaves from Shizouka Prefecture, this gelato has intense yet slightly bitter after-taste. Great for matcha lover who is looking for the real matcha “punch”.

Many commented that the Matcha flavor is strong and has a slight bitter after-taste. I am not a matcha fan when it comes to having it incorporated into my food but I like the matcha taste and I don’t get the bitter after-taste. I think they blended it in the gelato very well.

Salted milk :
Made using Nuchi masu salt. Seawater is drawn off the coast of Miyagi Island. This sea salt contain high in minerals and it can accentuated the creaminess of the milk flavor.

This has a very interesting flavor, if you want something salty go for this. I kind of like the salty-sweet sea salt taste from it.

Brown sugar :
Made in Tarama Village. This gelato offer a sweetness with a complex, mineral-rich finish.

The brown sugar has a pleasant taste, nothing very strong or unique but delicious in its own way.

Black/Red Tea :
Made in Kunigami Village. A unique Okinawa tea leaves from Inzatsu Assam variety offer an full aroma character.

This is another flavor that we both liked. You can taste the tea in the gelato. Tea lovers you will love it. Not too strong but enough to enhance the gelato’s flavor.

9

Meyer Lemon yogurt :
Meyer Lemon is a natural hybrid of lemon and orange. We made this into a unique yogurt as a suitable alternative after heavy dinner.

The yogurt is very refreshing and nice. I can’t decide if I liked this or the lime one better, but the lemon had a lighter taste compared to the shikuwasa gelato.

Cheese :
Made in Ishigaki Island using milk from Jersey cows. It’s mild, yet refined.

Cheese in a gelato is very unique, salty and sweet combination, not too chessy. I liked this as well.

8
Each cup retails at $4.90, there is a buy 5 get 1 free promotion on-going now.

6

Where to find them?
They are temporarily located at Raffles Xchange ( Beside TCC , 1 level above Raffles Mrt station). Be on the look out for their physical store coming to your way soon!

The 7 steps ultimate skincare regime (Night)

Have you tested out the 5 steps ultimate skincare regime (Day)? I hope that the skincare regime had been working well for your skin. To complete your total skincare regime you’ll need to care for your skin at night.

sc4

For night time skincare regime, it is important to incorporate products that assist in the exfoliation of dead skin sells, renews the skin as well as promotes healing while we sleep.

Some of the steps are repetitive from the day care regime, while the rest are add on to ensure that your skin can work at its optimal level while we are sleeping.

Step 1. Make-up Removal
After slapping on all the facial primers, CC Cushion and what not on your skin, its time to give them a thorough clean out by making use of a proper make-up removal to remove them.

sc5

For make-up removals, you can go for wipes for convenience sake or water-based make-up removers. My personal preference goes to water-based removers as I feel that they are cleaner. Although the instruction says that I need not wash my face afterwards, I still have the habit to do so.

Skin Caring Tips:
*Even if you did not applied any make-up, as long as you had your sunblock on, we would suggest you to remove them using your make-up removers so as not to clog your pores.

Step 2: Cleansing

Use a facial cleanser or facial wash which is suitable for your skin type. (Dry/Oily/Sensitive/Combination Skin). You better wash your face properly considering you had been outdoors the whole day! Even if you have not, I guarantee you that you had touched your face at least once during the day, that itself gives you a good reason for a good face wash.

“A cleanser is a facial care product that is used to remove make-up, dead skin cells, oil, dirt, and other types of pollutants from the skin of the face. This helps to unclog pores and prevent skin conditions such as acne.” – Wikipedia

Skin Caring Tips:
*After cleansing, make use of a fresh and clean piece of tissue paper or cotton wool to gently pat dry your face.

*Some people may also make use of a facial sponge (which get moldy or harden easily), or facial towel (which is more environmentally friendly). No matter which is your choice, do ensure that you wash them regularly.

sc1

<Additional Step: Exfoliation>
Once in a week, I like to exfoliate my skin with a mild peel, facial scrub or peeling jelly to remove the impurities on my face. People with sensitive skin should take note of their skin’s sensitive or peeling spots. Over exfoliating might also cause you more harm then good.

<Additional Step: Face Mask>
I used to love applying a face mask on my face before my face became over sensitive. You can use a wash-away mud mask or mask sheets depending on your preferences. Nowadays there are also sleeping mask which you can apply on your skin and sleep away with it.

Skin Caring Tips:
Do note that over-masking or leaving your mask on for prolong periods may have reverse effects such as drying up your skin instead of moisturizing them, so do stick with the recommended 10 -20 minutes on the mask pack unless otherwise stated.

Step 3. Tone
Apply a toner to your skin after cleansing as it helps to remove the excess oil on your skin.

Skin Caring Tips:
*Application can be through the use of cotton pads. Swipe them gently over your face and neck in upwards motion. Do not scrub. Some toners can also be applied directly using your palms and in patting motion. Do ensure that your palms are clean before application as you do not want more bacteria on your skin.

sc2

Step 4. Eye Cream
The purpose of the eye cream is mainly to help you lighten the dark circles around your eyes and reduce the puffiness.

Skin Caring Tips:
*Apply it gently under and around the eye areas. Do not rub.

 Step 5.  Pimple Cream/Blemish control/Sebum Control Cream
If you are suffering from an acne attack or having some pimples popping out of your face. This is the time to apply them on your zits.

Skin Caring Tips:
* Pimple cream usually contain skin drying ingredients such as Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid so be sure to use the product only on those zits and not apply it all over your face.

” Salicylic acid helps unclog pores to resolve and prevent lesions. It does not have any effect on sebum production and does not kill bacteria. It must be used continuously, just like benzoyl peroxide, because its effects stop when you stop using it — pores clog up again and the acne returns. ”

Step 6: Serum

They are applied onto the skin right after we tone, and before we apply our moisturizers. They serve as an additional skin booster through a concentration of active ingredients. As such, they tend to increase hydration, and supplement the “missing nutrients” in your basic skincare products.

sc3

Step 7. Moisturizer
Whether you are suffering from a dry skin or oily skin, a moisturizer is always encouraged. However, do not over moisturize as this will lead to clogging of pores. Moisturizing your skin helps prevents a flaky, dry skin and helps to restore your skin’s required moisture.

Follow these steps to achieve the ultimate skin care regime for the night. As a simple rule of thumb, always apply the lightest product first followed by the heavier products. This is such that the lighter product will get absorbed by your skin first. If you are still unsure, check with your skin specialist or the beauty advisor before purchasing the products.

sleep

Additional Skin Caring Tips:

*Keep your hair away from your face and hands off your face as much as possible to prevent  bacteria and germs from getting direct contact with your face.

* Change your pillow case and bed sheets often. Lying on your sides or with your face facing upwards will help you keep away from the germs and bacteria which are residing in your pillow.

Barashi-Tei

Friday seems to have became Fri-yays, because of the opportunity to try out new food in new places. I am a food explorer, I like to try out new dishes and order something different each time I dine at a restaurant.

This round, I had the opportunity to visit Barashi-Tei, where I get to sample an array of traditional Japanese dishes specially prepared by its owner, Mr Wang Zhenfeng who came all the way from China.

Most of the ingredients from his dishes were freshly imported from Japan. He had also spend most of his time learning from his master from Japan.

Let’s take a look around the restaurant which has a relaxing ambience with Japanese and wooden textures.

We loved how cozy this place looks with its decor, and how homely this place made us feel.

Some of us ordered the Yuzu drink $3.80, which was made by the owner himself. The Yuzu drink is not overly sweet and act as a good thirst quencher. Both hot and cold versions are available.

Bara Chirashi $13.80 has small chunks of Salmon, tuna, cucumber and tamago in it. It’s a bowl of salad with fresh pieces of different variety of raw fish.

Avocado Salmon Salad $13.80 has slices of slightly torched salmon slices with tomatoes, avocado, fish roe and lettuce. The torched salon slices were nicely done with the fish roe giving an interesting burst of fresh flavor when being bitten into.

Sashimi Salad $13.80 has chunks of different raw fish varieties together with lettuce, tomato, and other leafy vegetable.

Chirashi Don $16.80 has slices of different raw fish varieties such as the salmon, tuna, together with tamago served on rice. It makes a good meal by itself. You can pair it with a cup of Genmaicha $1.20.

Sake Jyu $16.80 offers you an option to have just slices of fresh Salmon slices and fresh fish roe if you like only a particular type of fresh fish…

or the Maguro Nakaochi Don $16.80 which offers you an alternative for non salmon fans…

For the tamago lovers, do not miss out on the sweet and thick slices of Yaki Tamago $5

Smoked Duck Kushi $2.60 was one of the favourites for duck lovers that surrounded the dinning table.. all the skewers was gone before I managed to snap a photo of them..

Spicy Salmon Maki $12.80 was one of my favourite dish because the salmon pieces were slightly torched with the maki done at the right sizing.. one bite and everything crispy, soft and sweet comes flowing down your throat together.

Wasabi Ebi $7.80
and Kuruma Ebi $7.80 it depends if you are a wasabi or a garlic lover. I prefer the Kuruma Ebi because of the strong garlic crisp that came with the Ebi.

Rice Paper Ebi Maki $10.80
must be inspired by the Vietnamese people. This dish is quite crunchy and nice, so opt for this if you would like something with less carbs.

Ika Teriyaki $13.80
is another hot favourite among the table, especially true to Tracy, who loves anything calamari or squid, just like me.. haha.

Sirloin Steak Foie Gras $19.80 has a fancy name, succulent beef slices but nothing too fanciful in its taste.

Gindara Nabe $24
had pieces of mackerel meat, cooked with assorted mushrooms and in a nice claypot of hot soup. This is a good pot of comfort food suitable for sharing.

Pudding of the day $3.80
We had the orange pudding which was refreshing, thick, not too sweet but nice. This ends our food tasting with a sweet note.

Thanks for having us!

Beauty Review: Bellezza Aesthetics Young Freeze Facial in Couple Room

To the loving husband who always had to wait for their wife to get their facial done, has it ever occurred to you that you too, can join your wife for a face pampering session and enjoy this time bonding together. Get some pampering “WE” time instead of waiting around or hanging around aimlessly. You deserve some credit for carrying her shopping bags too.

I am back at Bellezza after having experienced their impeccable service and pampering facial the previous round. This time, i brought along my husband with me since he had never experienced a facial before, and I had spotted quite a few acne on his face recently. He would be sharing his experience as a first-timer.

There are 3 things you should know about Bellezza, these are also the reason why I choose this place for my husband instead of elsewhere.

#1 Bellezza Aesthetics is known for their custom-blended face treatments.
They believe that every skin is different and that there is no one treatment that suits every individual.

#2 Bellezza Aesthetics is known for their detailed high tech skin analysis scan.
Every Bellezza Aesthetics esthetician is trained to provide an accurate diagnostic of the customer. This is done through our state-of-the art skin analysis scan that can determine your skin age and problem areas.

#3 They are known for our Face-Lift and Destress massage techniques.
Bellezza Aesthetics is unique and innovative in our own way with the re-invention of the traditional massage techniques. This exclusive set of Face-Lift and Destress massage technique is used in all our facial treatments procedures so every of our customer can reap its benefits.

As with all first timers, he had to fill up his particulars, medical history and facial concerns. As I am by now a repeated customer, I was spared from the process.

One thing that we loved being at Bellezza Aesthetics is their pre and post facial service, where simple things like biscuits and a warm cup of flower tea made us feel very at home. Did i also mentioned to you that they called me a day before my appointment to remind me that I had a facial?

This time round, I was recommended the Young Freeze, Cryopro Facial , by the skin aesthetic before we were ushered into our couple room. I only realized half way through my husband’s treatment that he was also doing the same treatment as me, as the machines and techniques used were the same.

We loved how big and cozy this room was and that we were serviced by two separate skin aesthetic . As I have come across some places where they would have conveniently placed one skin aesthetic to serve two or more customers in this similar kind of scenario.

The service was also nicely timed so we did not have to wait around for each other, we started and ended at the same time.

Here’s a photograph of me after my make-up was removed and face was cleansed. I am all ready to enjoy my facial and welcome my cleansed and lifted skin.

My pampering facial steps:

Bellezza Aesthetics Facial Procedure:
♛ Removal of make-up
♛ Cleansing of face
♛ Facial Massage with lavender oil
Special attention was given to my eyes because they looked too tired
♛ Eyebrow Trimming
♛ Softener was applied on the face before pimple extraction
♛ Pimple Extraction
♛ Young Freeze, Cryopro Facial, making use of a machine to lift up my “saggy skin” with special attention taken on my laugh lines and cheek areas. Attention was also given to drier parts of my face such as the red eczema spots.
♛ Facial Mask & short back massage

On top of that, I was also pampered with a Silky Collagen Hand Treatment, $88 which I had tried the previous round. I was glad that over here at Bellezza, I get to pamper not only my face but my hands at the same time. This is something additional that you don’t usually get on a facial session.

I managed to snap a photograph of the skin aesthetic performing a pimple extraction on my husband. He mentioned that there was little pain during the process. He felt a little uncomfortable to have someone touching his face but he felt more at ease as the facial continues.

Relaxing while waiting for the skin aesthetic to apply the facial mask on his face.

This the machine which was used to perform the Young Freeze, Cryopro Facial.  It felt as if my face was being squeezed hard especially at the cheeks and chin areas so that they were made to appear less saggy and look more firmed up. My skin aesthetic did half of my face and showed me the difference, focusing on my laugh lines and skin redness, before she continued with the other half of my face.

My skin aesthetic applied the final touches of skin care products on my face before the facial session ended with a short back massage.

That’s me with absolutely ZERO make-up looking refreshed and bright after a good pampering facial.

Review of Bellezza Aesthetics, Young Freeze Facial (90 mins) $268
♛ Pre and Post facial service made us felt very at home
♛ The use of the machine was a little uncomfortable as our face felt squeezed and tight but the effects made the process all worth it
♛ Facial extraction was bearable and did not leave any red marks
♛ As my husband was a first timer, he did not know what to expect (skin aesthetic could explain more about the steps that she was going to do, how it will help the skin and check if client was doing OK)
♛ Overall the couple room was big, spacious and comfortable. Great for mother and daughters or couples to have some pampering time together.
♛ Luxurious ambience and comfortable environment
♛ No hard selling and no hurrying of service

Now I don’t have to try explaining why I love going for facials so much, as he got to experience it for himself how pampering and relaxing it felt to have someone “cleaning up” my face and massaging my face. I enjoy the good results of not having to worry about my face for the next few weeks and looking bright and glowing all day.

Eczematous cheilitis or lip dermatitis is a disease is associated with dryness, cracking, or scaling of the lips. This may also affect the skin around the lips. This may be caused by allergies or by excessive licking of the lips.

#Tip 1: Stay hydrated
Water is so important in our lives and we cannot live without it. 65% of our body is made of water, so do hydrate yourself well for obvious reasons. A properly hydrated body will show on your lips. If you are dehydrated, you’ll see your lips peeling or turning red and for some sever cases of lips biting, it will even  lead to bumps and swelling.

Lip care Tips: Excessive licking of the lips can look very disturbing and may cause lip dermatitis. Stop doing it!

#Tip 2: Lip Scrub
Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub made with (1tsp Sugar + 1tsp Olive Oil). Gently scrub your lips by spreading the scrub along your lips going in small circular movements to remove dead skin cells. Do this for 30 seconds and rinse off.

#Tip 3: Lip Mask
Apply a lip mask mixture of (1tsp raw honey +1tsp yogurt). Apply it on your lips for 5 minutes using your clean finger tips or the back of a clean spoon, and rinse off. You can put on a raw honey mask and leave it overnight if you don’t mind risking ants on your bed or your “honey” coming to lick it off.

Lip care Tips: There are some commercial lip mask available in the market if you don’t mind splurging a little.

lipbalm

#Tip 4: Apply Lip Balm
Apply lip balm often, even if you use a lipstick , you can use them under your lipstick. You can also go for topical solutions such as applying Vaseline or try the fruity, honey flavoured lip balms. Be spoiled for choice as here are so many different types of lip balms in the market.

Lip care Tips: If you have lip eczema or sensitive lip, do go for only trusty brands. Do select those without “flavouring” and your best bet are those with minty flavors with a good SPF level.

#Tip 5: Lip Gloss
They give your lips the extra moisture and glossy finish with some lip colour. Great for those days where you just wanna appear less formal, at the same time plump up your lips.

Lip care tips: Some Lip Gloss can be quite sticky. You do not need to purse your lips on the tissue to get rid of the “excess” like how you would with your lipstick.

#Tip 6: Lipstick
Last but not least, give your lips some bright colour. Go for a trusty make-up brand and find something that may like. Go for orange, pinkish shades if you are young and red, brown vampire shades to look more mature.

Lip care tips: I like to apply a layer of lip balm under my lipstick to increase the moisturizing factor as well as prevent my lips from having direct contact with the chemicals contained in the lip stick. Go for natural, organic lipsticks than commercial brands where possible.

I also like to purse my lips lightly on a piece of tissue before I head out, so I do not stain the cups when I drink.

#Tip 7: Lip Tattoos (Temporary)
Try temporary lip tattoos if you are thinking funky. They are gel like lip gloss applied to the lips, where you can peel off after drying for a lip colour on your lips. The colour stays on your lips for quite some time and goes off by itself, so there’s no need for constant lipstick re-application (e.g- after outdoor activities and mealtimes).

Lip care tips: Do not over do it and peel off the skin on your lips.

Lip products generally last for 1/2 -1 year once they are used for the first time. Do trash them away once they have reached their end of life to prevent getting in contact with bacteria thriving on them.

I do not recommend sharing of lip balms or lipsticks, unless you are using a lip palette or lip brush.

The 5 steps ultimate skincare regime (Day)

I believe you hope to achieve a beautiful skin with the least amount of effort in the day, as you would love to lay a while longer on your bed before you rush to get ready for work. I would love to share with you some of my skincare tips as a beauty blogger, with very sensitive skin and battling with skin eczema issues.

eczema

  1. a medical condition in which patches of skin become rough and inflamed with blisters which cause itching and bleeding. – Google Search

Step 1. Cleansing
Use a facial cleanser or facial wash which is suitable for your skin type. (Dry/Oily/Sensitive/Combination Skin). It is not recommended to share a facial cleanser with your partner or family, unless both of you have similar skin types, as each of these facial cleansers are formulated to work in a different way. There are people whom I know of, who will wake up from bed, washing their face with merely tap water, thinking that this is perfectly fine because they had been indoors all night. This is not acceptable because the environment that we sleep in often had bacteria and germs thriving in them.

Step 2. Tone
Apply a toner to your skin after cleansing as it helps to remove the excess oil on your skin. Do not shy away from toners even if you are suffering with a sensitive skin as the right toners will help to soothe your red, flaming and peeling skin. Do however, look for toners that are free from fragrance and alcohol.

Step 3. Serum (Optional)
Serums are thicker than liquid and denser than face oils. They are applied onto the skin right after we tone, and before we apply our moisturizers. They serve as an additional skin booster through a concentration of active ingredients. As such, they tend to increase hydration, and supplement the “missing nutrients” in your basic skincare products.

“Face serums are lightweight moisturizers that penetrate deeper to deliver active ingredients into your skin.” -huffingtonpost.com

Skin Caring Tips:
* You would usually apply a serum by dispensing it using its dropper, cupping your hands, warming up the serum before you gently pat them onto your face.

Step 4. Sunblock/Sunscreen (SPF)
Some dermatologist recommend the use of sunblock before applying a light moisturizer due to the fear of chemical reactions from active ingredients which may hinder absorption rate, while others say that it should be the last thing you apply on to your skin. So does it matters?

“Dermatologists recommend using a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30, which blocks 97 percent of the sun’s rays. Higher-number SPFs block slightly more of the sun’s rays, but no sunscreen can block 100 percent of the sun’s rays. Currently, there is not any scientific evidence that indicates using a sunscreen with an SPF higher than 50 can protect you better than a sunscreen with an SPF of 50.” -aad.org

Skin Caring Tips:
* I have recently started going for moisturizers which contains some form of sunblock in them. In this way, I don’t have to worry about which comes first and forgetting my sunscreen. Don’t forget to apply them on your neck areas and exposed body areas too.

* A sunscreen should be applied 20-30 minutes before you head out as they take time to soak into your skin to form the protective layer. They should also be re-applied after water activities and every 2 hours so that you can receive the maximum sun protection.

*You need to apply a sunblock even if you are indoors because UV rays penetrate through clouds and windows. UV rays are present even in florescent lights.

*You need to remove your sunscreen with make-up removers before you head to bed.

Step 5. Moisturizer
Whether you are suffering from a dry skin or oily skin, a moisturizer is always encouraged. However, do not over moisturize as this will lead to clogging of pores. Moisturizing your skin helps prevents a flaky, dry skin and helps to restore your skin’s required moisture.

Follow these steps to achieve the ultimate skin care regime for the day.
